What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Haven't seen a whole lot of news or rumors on this, but wouldn't trading Elvis for a boat load of prospects be the best thing for this franchise long-term considering the trades out there? I have no idea what we could get, but I know the Pirates or Cardinals have a great farm and a possible SS need. Even if we trade for Upton, we could replenish that farm depth for a Price or Stanton trade if/when they become available. I doubt we do anything like this, but it's something to think about.
I would have to see in a TORP or potential franchis player in return to feel comfortable with an Andrus trade.
Pardon my ignorance, but what doe TORP stand for?
Top of Rotation Pitcher
And yes. I'm down with trading Elvis. I'm not even too picky on who/what we trade him for (Prospects/impact bat/TORP). I just think his value is at it's highest right now and we're dealing from a position of strength.
I would be down with trading Kinsler, even if you don't get much in return, just to rid the team of his salary, get Profar in the lineup, and have more to spend in hopes of retaining Andrus. My concern is Kinsler is on his way to being the next Young; overpaid, underperforming, stubborn, entitled and egotistical.
I really don't understand the Young comps for Kinsler. I think that's a lazy comparison. Tell me how often Young accumulated more than 4.0 fWAR in a season? Tell me when moving Young from any position on the diamond was the WRONG move? Tell me how good Young's defense and baserunning is...
Underperforming? I'm not trying to say that Ian didn't suck last year because he did, but it stands out like a sore ankle because of how great he's capable of being. In all honesty, do you realize how much he is being paid? Do you realize to what level he has to perform to be worth his contract?
If so, do you REALLY think he's going to put up less than 3.0 fWAR this upcoming year?
Did he put up a 3+ War last season? Honest question, I don't know.
Over 1000 designs!!!!
5.04.73.2 (103 games)7.53.2 (apparently he suffered from a high ankle sprain all year)
I have no problem trading him when it appears he won't generate surplus value, but then his contract is designed where he is paid less towards the end of the contract. As of right now there is no way I trade Ian unless I receive a great offer (which won't happen because you'll be selling low on Ian after the year he just had). Elvis is gone in 2 years whether by trade or free agency - so why would you trade Ian now barring an impact MIF under longer control than Elvis?
A good trade for Andrus was with the Diamondbacks pre-Cleveland trade when an Andrus for Bauer and Skaggs had potential and would have looked a lot like a Billy Beane type deal. A known trade in a few years who you would not be able to afford, so trade when their is high value for young pitching that you envisioned had a high upside. A starters core of Darvish, Harrison, Holland all yet to reach 28; and a younger loaded core of Bauer, Buckel, Feliz from the right and Perez, Ross , Skaggs from the left, all with TORP potential. Then trade off over extended time and success, as the next in line moves up, a TORP for the palyer needed at that moment in time. But time does move on, and this becomes a could have been. Why, every team looks for a TORP, and though you have not cornered the market, you do have plenty to replenish weak points as they evolve over the rest of this decade.
Andrus for Skaggs AND Bauer? DONE!
I dont think that was being discussed but if you have a link to a credible source...by all means
We need to be positioning for the next 3 years. Either sign EA long term .....or trade him now and place JP at ss. If you do reup EA, trade JP now. Waiting until mid summer to decide will cost the Rangers value......big value.
This decision , properly executed , will solidify the Rangers with a West Division Championship and WS potential.... for at least the next 3 years.
I like our chances with Elvis this year, not a kid who got a cup of coffee and has not played an entire game at AAA. Yes, there were two kids who blew away both leagues last year but neither Olt or Profar are neither of those guys. What are the odds of another 19-20 year having a splash like we saw last summer. We will not see that type of action for another 20 year.
I like our chances WITH Elvis, not without him for a kid.
Elvis Andrus as a 20 year old kid:
.313 wOBA81 wRC+3.4 fWAR
Elvis Andrus last year
.322 wOBA95 wRC+4.2 fWAR
That stick wouldn't be that hard to replace. We aren't asking for Trout or Harper. If you think Profar isn't capable of at least matching Andrus' rookie year, it's possible he doesn't - but it's entirely more likely he produces near that level or surpasses it than he bottoms out.
The number that keeps coming back, and unfortunately defines the negative side of Andrus is 14 for 2284, and limits his value in any trade.
The dude is a top 5 SS no matter how you slice it. Limit that.
Obviously, Daniels views Elvis that way too, P1 Stefen.
