Forum > Upton Post Mariner Rumors
Dead on, primi. Arizona knows they can get the most from Texas. Jon Daniels knows this, too.
Olt and Holland, or Olt/Perez/B prospect, and Upton should be ours.

I don't know where/when Hollands name got thrown in to these rumors but if its Olt+Dutch v. Elvis, I'll but Little E's plane ticket.
We don't have starting pitching depth. There are no viable starters on the FA market. Why would you give up 25% of our rotation?

And to second that on Dutch, Bleacher Report made a list of every team's ACE. Surprisingly for the Rangers it was not Darvish, not even Harrison, but none other than Derek Holland. Holland's name originated because of the comparative association to Charlie Furbush. Both lefties, same age, with a degree of mlb success.

I see Olt, Perez, and someone else. Rumors are Ross will try to be a starter, making Perez less necessary. With Upton down to 2-3 teams, Towers under pressure, and a ceiling established for Upton's trade value, things will get interesting. So now KT has turned down Olt and Cabrera, traded for an A prospect pitcher, decent IF'er, and a set of BP prospects, is now back to Olt plus? I hope so but I worry about KT's flavor of the day may be pitching.

Bleacher Report is a joke. I highly recommend you stop going there for nuggets of information. Derek Holland is not an ace. Not a TORP. He's stuck in averageville with a blind #2 ceiling that he may never reach.

Eric do you have so little comprehension that you can not clearly understand what I posted. If you had, then you could have clearly extrapolated that I was ranking him as the #3 on the Rangers. Maybe I should simplify the wordings in the future for your comprehension. However, I do tire of your outright biases if not down-right prejudices. When you repeatedly make asinine statements like this MLB sponsored media 'is a joke' or this retired MLB player, without knowing personally, is an 'idiot' or worse another retired MLB player that all you need to know is his ethnicity. All I can wonder is who is the joke, who is the idiot?

I second that Les
Not that Eric

I see you like to backtrack. Would you like to continue backtracking some more?
Let me break it down:
With regard to my comment about Bleacher Report, notice I was not personally passing judgement on you. I was putting BR down, not you. But you took it personally, which is why you came back and attacked me personally. If you'd like to have a rational discussion about the merits of Bleacher Report, I'm all ears. I think you'll have a rough time doing it on this board.
Secondly, nothing you said in your aforementioned comment that I highlighted did you make it seem like you were ranking our pitchers in any particular order. It appeared as if you were giving credence to a Bleacher Report article, furthering the notion that Holland and Olt would be a good pickup for Arizona. Again, if you'd like to have a rational discussion relating to your poor word choice, or poor syntax, I'm all ears. It sounds like you are trying to blame me for your shortcomings.
Thirdly, if you take my Harold Reynolds "He's black" comment the wrong way, then you've not been around any of the in-game chats. Plenty of BBTiA regulars can vouch for me. Again, your fault, not mine.
Last, if you can present a logical way of saying Mitch Williams is either (a) intelligent, (b) a good analyst, (c) not an idiot, et. al, I will be here to listen. If you believe Mitch Williams is a smart guy, or a solid, objective analyst, then methinks it says more about you then it does Mitch. He can't help it.
Thank you for reading, and I applaud your efforts if you're able to convince me otherwise of any of my above statements, especially if you don't resort to your typical name-calling and subjective logic.

Eric....
<sigh>
Never mind.

I agree that I don't understand why we would send Holland when we need more SP depth. When I hear the name Holland thrown in, I think we may be getting incomplete information. We would have to be getting back perhaps a younger ML ready pitcher in return. Holland's appeal to AZ might be cost certainty with his contract extension.
scotth
I can't see the Rangers giving up either Holland or Perez... Grimm, maybe... and a couple of other prospect pitchers... but, not lefties. TBiA is built for lefty pitchers. Righties struggle to keep the ball out of the jetstream.
And, I can't fathom the Rangers would consider Upton worth a Derek Holland straight up let alone with a high ceiling guy like Olt added in. We'll just have to see how this all shakes out. But, the market for pitchers this year is pretty much off the charts (unless you have a Draft Pick stuck to your butt).

Sorry eric, I have little desire to wedge myself into some of the childish bickering that goes on here, but his post was pretty clear. Here is the sentence that makes it so clear.
"Surprisingly for the Rangers it was not Darvish, not even Harrison, but none other than Derek Holland."
"Surprisingly" is the key word in understanding his stance, indicating his "surprise" that BR would pen DH as an ace.
He isn't "bactracking", he's simply pointing out that you misinterpreted is point. Don't take it so personally.
dub
dub, it's implied that it's surprising, because the idea is retarded. I didn't think les's stance was made clearly enough. And I certainly don't think the response I gave warranted an attack on me.
But les likes to troll me, and I don't mind obliging every now and again. So there's that.
eric reining
Leave Eric alone. We don't want him pouting and whining.
Not that Eric
I might get kicked off here but good gosh Eric there are other opinions on here besides yours. Quit being such a prima donna.. And BTW-you are not always right. You know what they say. Opinions are like assholes-everybody has one. Now until your mom buys this site for you believe it or not you are just another poster.
Billy Baseball
And how was eric's reply "taking it personally?". eric ridiculed Bleacher Report, which is one of the worst baseball analysis sites out there. It sounded like les was "surprised," but in agreement, with BR's analysis.
All I'm saying is, I totally see how eric interpreted it the way it was written. les' reply, calling eric a racist and whatnot, are a huge overreaction.
Let's all chill now and sing kumbaya.
gnats
I second gnats opinion. Eric's response didn't warrant any of your bashing. I would just say don't reference bleacher report if you don't want to sound like an idiot.
P1 Stefen
If Holland was to be included in a deal, then that's I be where Kyle Lohse all of a sudden could be a viable option here.
NorthTex
My phone screwed that up, excuse the poor grammar.
NorthTex
¿Wouldnt it be awesome if "Not that eric" was really eric trolling himself?
Willie B.
Quick, someone call 911 and advise the Sheriff someone stole "eric's" account! Eric, no way we trade Olt and Holland for the Cancer in the desert, no way.
Why do we trade Holland when we need starting pitching? He is as good as anyone that is available and better than most at this point. "Come on man!"
mmurphf
Bleacher Report does suck. I, too, have been fairly chastised for BR references. In fact, almost all slide show sites suck.
As far as trading Holland, Olt is not near enough for Upton. If AZ is now targeting pitching, then Holland is a logical trade prospect. Yu and Harrison are off the table AZ wants to win now. Holland has decent cost control and would appear to have less risk than the MiLB candidates. Other possibilities would be Ogando and the bullpen pitchers. None of these are great options, which is why I think the Ranger offer--assuming it was second best-- may not succeed and another team with more and better pitching prospects (ATL?) may be able to shuffle their offer sheets and beat the Rangers.
I am an Upton fan but sometimes trades just don't work. They are even more difficult if the GMs cannot reach common ground on player values or change objectives. It is easy to see JD and KT having communication problems. JD speaks sabre and KT recently discovered park effects. I think it may be time to be looking at pitchers on teams other than AZ.

Funny, the second I read the words "bleacher report", I knew this would be a special thread.
Revsader
Can we get Goldschmidt too? Please?
Revsader

Olney is twittering, and MLTR us repeating it, that AZ now likes Mike Olt. And so it goes.
