Forum > It's time to give Leonys Martin his chance/random thoughts

Before we leave the tangent, to keep the facts straight, the following in NOT factually accurate: " if turned down then the team gets the draft choice if the player eventually signs with another team."

The team that signs a qualifying player loses their #1 pick (but if picking in top 10, their #2 pick). But the team that lost the player does not get that pick. They get a sandwich pick at the end of round 1. One pick is lost, one is gained, but it's not the same pick ...and now teams don't get two picks for losing one player.

On a different item, the following - - "there is much belief that Boras will have Bourn sign a one year contract somewhere, so he can get the big contract in 2014, thus circumnavigating the free agent system" - - sounds like pure hype. Not sure who has "much belief" in such silliness, but I sure don't. Agent threat speak.

The possibilities that are more likely: (a) Bourn signing a one-year deal with Atlanta (only), which is the one team that doesn't have to pay a first rounder for the rental, or (b) Bourn waits until after the draft, and then signs a long term deal. That removes the draft pick compensation that is getting in the way, increasing his value and presumably his contract.

I'm sure Leonys will get more than his share in CF. That pressure is thier on Wash.
I don't think Profar, nor Olt will get thier share of play though(unless Andrus is traded).
RW is NOT going to bench Kinsler. I still think Ian's play at 1B is a club smoke screen.
