Forum > Excerpts from Keith Law's Chat over at ESPN pertaining to the Rangers
I want Upton and Stanton, both, at the same time. HA!
Would not give up anything for them though, would have to be a trade that hurts (it would have to hurt) but not selling all future for. I don't really understand the voices that say they would not want Justin Upton, he is pretty damn fabulous, just not as fabulous as Giancarlo Stanton.

actually, what UTB said was: Nothing about Andrus is elite. He's a good ML SS who will/should be gone in two years. And I think that's a ridiculous statement...
Elvis is elite defensively at the most important position on the field....
And while I haven't looked at every shortstop in the ML, I would say there are only a handful of shortstops over the last 4 years that exceed Elvis's cumulative WAR of 14... Jeter, Tulowitzki, Hanley, Reyes (just barely), Rollins (even more barely).
Anyone name any others? # 6 isn't too shabby.... to me that qualifies him as elite...
That being said, the rangers shouldn't resign him as they have a great replacement ready and elvis is more valuable as a trade chip, at this point to fill other needs

I've no issue calling Elvis a top-5 SS right now. By the time he hits free agency in two years he could be top-3.
However, let's not pretend he's a "good hitting" SS or an "above average" offensive SS; that's simply not the truth. The data checks out, and if it didn't, you'd probably have a certain amount of rational "trade Elvis" supporters thinking it might not be such a bad idea to pocket him and look to package Profar elsewhere -- since the disparity between Elvis and JP would have decreased.
A career high 95 wRC+ a good hitting shortstop does not make. It's sad, because I like Elvis, but this is the offseason he goes. I've been under the impression a deal has been in place to move him for awhile now.
