What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
We all know on the fateful night of August 5th, 2010 that an ownership group lead by Nolan Ryan and Chuck Greenberg won the auction to buy the Texas Rangers. But what if things had gone differently that day? If Mark Cuban had won the bid, how different do you think the Texas Rangers roster would look right now? I would have to believe at least one of these (Prince Fiedler, Albert Pujols, Zack Greinke, or Josh Hamilton) players would be in Texas, possibly even 2 of them. What do you think the roster would look like if Cuban had won the auction?
We are better off with Davis and Simpson. I don't think he would have been the big spender some people act like he would have.
He is not doing enough with the Mavs right now. will he?
I don't understand what the hell you're talking about!
You think Cuban would have been able to land one of those big name free agents because the Mavericks have been able to pick up so many marquee free agents? Oh wait, they've missed out on every big name they've gone after!
And even if Cuban would have splashed the cash, out of the four players you mentioned (Prince Fiedler, Albert Pujols, Zack Greinke, or Josh Hamilton) who do you really think is worth the contract they got. It's pretty obvious that not a single one of them is worth the contract they got. I wouldn't have wanted the Rangers to match a single one of those contracts!
You can't compare signing a NBA free agent to a MLB free agent. The NBA has a maximum contract that can be offered. He could money whip any MLB player. Not saying he could sign them, but he would have as much leverage ($) as the dodgers have. Saying that, I'm glad he's not our owner. GO SPURS!
Look what Cuban did to the Mav's roster during the same period.
Ya I feel Cuban would be doing similar to what the Dodgers are doing. Just spending a lot of money. And also with the whole inability to sing free agents by mark Cuban, the Mavs pitched Dirk Nowitzki as the reason for D-Will to sing in Dallas. The mavs superstar is aging fairly quickly, and the team itself is on a down hill slide. With the Rangers, they have a bunch of promising young prospects, and a very competitive team. The reason D-will signed with the Nets is because they have a more promising future than the Mavs, not because of Mark Cuban or money.
Cuban said not that long ago that the Rangers should be operating at around a 75 mil payroll in order for the team to be profitable. People think that because he's rich and has spent tons of money on the Mavs that he would do the same with another sports franchise. People forget that he got rich because he's a business man. The reason he used to spend big money on the Mavs is because he was a big fan before he bought the team. The same cannot be said for the Rangers. If he owned the Rangers he would not be spending big money on FA.
What if...we would of matched the Dodgers offer to Greinke....
What if... Hicks would still be the owner...
What if... Hamilton would of given Daniels the chance to match the Angels offer....
What if Feliz and Lewis would be ready by Opening Day 2013...
What if Giancarlo is acquired next month...
Oh I'm getting tired of all these what ifs...
It's easy to dream but current ownership has spent money just on the right players(beltre and darvish look pretty good right now)
After the HUGE 2012 Collapse, in the final weeks, Ron Washington would have been fired.
