What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
What would you think about Hafner? I think as a one year flier he would provide a pretty solid LH DH bat with some pop for maybe 70 or 80 games. I don't really see the horrible downside other than taking a spot on the 25 man for a DH-only. I just hate the thought of Pierzynski DHing on days off from catching (an idea floated by Buster Olney)
IMO, we have better guys on the roster than Hafner - especially for 70-80 games as you indicated it may only be for. If we move Cruz to DH and have Leonys Martin in RF, not only will our defense be better (Martin has a pretty good arm as well, though not as strong as Cruz's), but we are covered from Wash's platoon splits that he loves to play no matter what. Both Cruz and AJ have above average career numbers v LHP and we have enough guys that hit RHP that are already in the lineup. A steady rotation of Cruz, Olt, Kinsler, Beltre, and Moreland at DH over the course of the season will keep our guys fresh and give our younger guys more of a chance to develop at the big league level.
I do not see the need to bring in Hafner or any other part time player.
@AtownAB you're probably right, I admit it was farfetched but it does seem like the roster has a need for power, which isn't usually cheap to find. But if it came down to giving Olt/Moreland/Martin more PAs or field time, then I would prefer to not have him as well.
Originally a Texas Ranger... Travis Hafner...
But, his Hit Tool, right now, is bordering on zero. Power's still a 70+, but he can't find the ball any better than Josh could last year. But, at least he made sure the pitch was in the vicinity of the MetroPlex before he swings.
