1 year deals for almost anyone isn't a bad thing. AJP is a useful MLB catcher at the worst. AJP and Soto is a reasonable tandem. Soto and Whitesides/Martinez is basically a mess. 1/7.5 is not a mistake.

The signing of AJP for 1 year isn't a bad thing, he is replacing Napoli, not Hamilton. This gives the younger guys in the minors another year to develop and see what they have to offer.
