Forum > Ed Jackson close to signing
Yeah, that's more than I'd want to see the Rangers spend on him.

$52/4 = $13 million AAV
Jackson is entering his age-30 season.
The last four years he's put up (fWAR) :
3.6
3.9
3.9
2.7
If each WAR is valued @ $5M, I could easily see him justifying that contract. That's 2.6 fWAR/year.

people keep saying every free agent is being overpaid for and the price is crazy etc, but it seems more like that's just the price nowdays. to sign anyone you have to "overpay" unless you're the only team interested
ahhyeah
Each year prices vary based on supply demand. I don't know that we need Jackson all that much with the arms we have. Save the $ for something else.

I could see it being justified too eric, but I was hoping the Rangers would be able to procure a #3 pitcher without topping $50m. I can't blame them if they decide that's too rich, but neither can I blame them if they decide it's worth it to (possibly) overpay for him.
Andy
I agree with you @ Andy .. I don't like the no trade either

I just read on ESPN Jackson is close to a deal 4 for 52! you know I would love to see the rangers make a few moves but the prices these guys are getting are crazy! No way Ed Jackson is worth 4 for 52 and if we had signed him for that he would have been a 4th or 5th starter!
