Forum > ESPN: Rangers- EDWIN JACKSON
4-5 yrs? God I hope not. If this is true I have to believe either Perez or Holland is about to get shipped off in a trade somewhere.
Romeo212000
I agree. Padre's seem to have dropped out at that commitment. If we trade an arm in our rotation,
surely it means a big piece coming back? Upton talks back on track? If Jackson is obtained by Rangers,
it would certainly have to be the big bat needed in the middle and an everyday player. I also hear
Ibanez(40) is also being considered as a $1-2Mil LH/DH Bat.

This has to be an agent ploy. Ughh, unless we have a trade in the bank...we better pass.

Yay...
This is like settling for the chick that none of your friends will take home after a long night of drinking.
Desperate and horny, your 2013 Texas Rangers.

Have y'all heard anything about Rafael Soriano? I think he would be a great late inning replacement for Mike Adams, Ogando and Koji. He can also close if Joe Nathan needs a day off. If / when Soria becomes effective, that would be a ridiculous back end of the bullpen. The Rangers obviously have to cash to pay him.

Edwin jackson is a fat chick?

Koji? Please do keep up

I wouldn't want to lose our 1st round pick for a reliever seeking tons of money. Pass.

Does Jackson cost a draft pick?
primi timpano
no, he doesn't.

Jackson is ok, but 5 years at 12-13 million, ouch! I like him at 4 years 10 million, but he is a Boras client, so probably not happening. However, if it is a 4 year deal with an option year, I could get on board with that. I would defintely like to see what the Maddox brothers could do with him? He has good stuff, if somewhat inconsistent. I could see 11 million a year with bonuses and incentives that could push it up to the Bowden numbers, but guranteed dollars at 5 years, I would pass on.
Wild CPA
why does everyone hate jackson? he's been a 3+ war player for like the last 4 years. To get him at 12 mil or so a ear is great value.
YP
he has 2 ears though

YEARS lol

I think that money would be better spent locking up Harrison and signing a back-end vet to eat innings this year.
The_Henchmen
I'm for this, but I hope it doesn't mean they won't extend Harrison (they should). Acquiring him would certainly not mean that the Rangers should try to trade Holland or Perez, though. I think Perez still has a lot of development to do, and he'll get his chance.
Andy
PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS WRONG
Aaron
I agree that to do this means it looks like a trade of Holland or Harrison. Although, Darvish -Harrison-Jackson-Holland-Ogando is not a bad rotation
5 years depending on the money and No Trade clause might work. I'll wait and see on this one

Why don't we just call this what it is (a rebuild) and do what needs to be done? Trade Kinsler, Cruz and Beltre for the best pitching prospects we can get and start over?
An infield of Olt, Andrus, Profar and Moreland with a Catcher to be named later is not a bad start. If Leonys develops then CF is covered. LF and RF?
I would hate to lose Beltre but we are going to waste these next few years. We don't have have the pitching to rely on and our offense can no longer carry the team. So make the hard choice now.
JD said his biggest mistake when he first took the job was mis-evaluating where the team was - he thought they were ready to win. He should not make that mistake now. Third basemen are in short supply, trade Beltre for the moon.
Texas Foldem
I don't know why signing Jackson would mean we'd have to trade either Harrison or Holland. I think it would mean rounding out the rotation. There's a feasible plan if we sign AJP and Edwin Jackson, and that's to solidify both catcher and starting rotation.
Based on the recent track record of Edwin Jackson, he should be worth about 3.0 wins next year. Based on AJP, that could potentially be another 2.0-3.0 wins. Between the two of them, that's, conservatively, about 5.0 wins. Add that to an 82-85 win team, and you're looking at a borderline 90-win season. Add a good bullpen arm or two, or a Swisher/Upton, and you're up to again competing for the AL West.
Lot's of time, mates.

And at that, I fully expect both Jackson and AJ to sign elsewhere in 5...4...3...2...

We are not in a rebuild mode nor do we need to go that way, with that said ejax screams Daniels pickup under 30 with 2 starter type upside for a 3rd of what grienke would have cost us
Christian86
I agree with Texas Foldem. I have said it beofre and got butchered but trading Beltre brings you a massive haul. Maybe not the Texeira haul but comparable. Kins can be traded for reasonable value, Cruz might get you a reliever plus, and if you want to go further Elvis brings back prospects and maybe one MLB player. If you can get a power bat for corner outfield, a stud pitcher, and a young catcher out of all of that then you have done pretty well and I would feel much better about the team goign forward.
I really don't see this team having the offense to compete in the West. Also Jackson and AJP look like band aids on a sucking chest wound to me. If you don't rebuild by trading the guys mentioned above, then stand pat and see what the youngsters provide.
Also I see a lot of people saying move Cruz to a LF platoon with Murphy! What makes you think he can catch the ball any better in left as opposed to right? Personally he is at the top of my trade list, simply for his defense and declining offensive production.
Ok, realisticly, I say stand pat with what we have now. Let someone else waste the money on AJP and Jackson. If you are in contention at the trade deadline then push for whatever we need then. But otherwise this year is OJT for the youngsters and seeing what they can do on the MLB level. I relaly don't think Perez is goign to learn anything at AAA, give him a year int eh rotation with the Maddux boys and see what they can do with him.
