Forum > Keep profar while getting stanton

To get stanton rangers will need a huge haul and might be expected to give up profar but if you can fill all the marlins needs in a trade then profar can be kept

1. trade andrus(paying most to all of his contract) to pirates or boston and get cole/taillon and marte or boegarts and bradley jr
2. package them with olt, martin, perez , holland and cruz plus $
3. receive stanton and nolasco and enjoy an extra 100 hrs per season(60 by stanton 40 given up by nolasco)

Thoughts?

Has JD answered the question on why he hasn’t traded Elvis yet? IMO Upton would have been here already. I mean what’s his plan? Why sign IK extension if you planned on moving him to 1b?
Does anyone in baseball have a bigger chip to trade right now the Elvis? Is Profar not ready yet? I’m for sliding in a kid here and there into the lineup but the idea was to keep our window open for years right not slam it shut. Was the plan always to play Profar at 2nd?
Profar is, was Elvis’s replacement right? Move Elvis! Detroit sure needs a SS. What package could you get for him? Porcello, Castenllous, Garcia, Dirks/or Bosech. Then keep what we want, add Olt, Buckel and send the kitchen sink to the marlins for Stanton.

IMO if they want stanton do it now before the marlins have more leverage than they already have. With the choo and shields trades the marlins saw what a 30 yr old above average player with 1-2 years of control and the dickey trade isnt helping. Earlier today a rangers representative said if dickey would only cost buckel and olt then he'd be in texas already! The Marlins held the upper hand from the start but these trades and the continuous loss of targets for texas are only making things harder.

Garcia is a 4th outfielder, and Dirks/Bosech are replacement-level players. No interest in them. But if we're trying to make a serious run at Stanton without giving up Profar, you flip Elvis for two blue chip prospects and package them with Olt and Perez and change.

Trading for Stanton is as realistic as trading for King Felix. It's just not going to happen. If I was the GM for the Pirates or Boston there is no way in hell I make that trade. Andrus for a future TORP? Boston is trying to restock and get ready to compete in a few years, why would they trade their best prospect when they aren't ready to compete? Neither of those trades make an ounce of sense from an opposition standpoint. I'm also not sure where this "Cruz to Miami" notion comes from as it makes absolutely no sense at all. He's making 8 digits next year and is a year away from free agency. Why would Miami want him?

@JKolar

I think Boston is much closer to competing than "in a few years". I see them challenging Tampa and NY for the division next year.

@Joker
First of all any prospects for a legit PROVEN shortstop makes sense ss are hard to find and many prospects may end up sucking. And cruz to miami makes sense if this deal even wants to happen selig is on miami's ass and unless miami gets solid major leaguers he wont approve

Sorry I couldn't get passed paying most of Elvis' contract in a trade? What the F? There are 29 other teams that would love to have Elvis under his current 2 year deal. Rangers wouldn't have to pay shit.

Free Elvis! Free Elvis! Flip Elvis!
the Rangers FO philosophy is that all FA are over paid and not worth the money they are getting in the open market. Elvis's agent takes all his clients to FA. Are we going to let Elvis do a JH, only to lose him also.

Well if it helps getting the 2 top prospects it shouldnt be a problem .

Olt, Perez, Martin, Buckel, Garcia and Odor should get it done for Stanton and Brantley.

Profar, Perez, Martin, Grimm, Odor and Sardinas should be enough for Stanton, Nolasco and Brantley.

@007
not even close read my comment above the rangers would gladly offer olt and buckel for dickey so your proposal translates to dickey perez martin and odor for stanton and their best catcher? dream on my friend

Mauer at C/1st. Willingham at DH and some 1st or RF. Cruz traded. Profar in Minors one more year. This plus starting Ross fills all the holes. Moreland plays some 1st and some DH. Soto catches when Darvish pitches or when an opposing LHP pitches and Mauer plays 1st against LHP and Moreland sits on the bench.

Ross will be a good starter, IMO. Ross was worth 2 WAR in 65 innings, about the same as Feliz, Ogando and Soria, all of which have been/are/could be excellent starting pitchers [small sample size warning, admittedly].

Mauer costs Less than Hamilton, has higher OBP, fielding, WAR, batting average, is younger, doesnt use drugs that we know of and is a good Face of the Franchise and does shampoo commercials with cute chicks in them. If he costs too much, let the Twins subsidize him and include Willingham. Rangers can give up Borbon [nearly a 2WAR player] and any prospects necessary to do the deal, or Minnesota can give prospects to even out the deal. Twins have said they cannot afford Mauer, and Willingham will be gone before Twins can rebuild.

Mauer is unessesary and expensive both money wise and what it will cost to get him id rather give up the farm for cheap young phenom in stanton.

Trade Elvis, Martin, Olt, Perez, and a PTB for Stanton and Nolasco
Sign Bourn to 5 year @15 million AAV w/3rd year player option 4th year Mutual Option and 5th year team option.
Resign Murphy in Arbitration for 3 year 18 million guaranteed w/4th year team option for 7mill w/2mill buyout
Sign Harrison in art for 4 years 24 mill guaranteed with club options on 5th and 6th to take it up to 45 mill
Resign Feliz for 2.5 in arb
Sign Veteran lefty reliever for roughly 2 years at 7-10 million with club option on 3rd
Sign Shoppach to two year deal with player option.
Lineup: Bourn, Murphy, Beltre, Stanton, Cruz(DH), Kinsler, Moreland, Shoppach/Soto, Profar..w/Gentry as 4th outfielder.
Set midterm in LF and CF with Murphy and Bourn respectively as well as Gentry subbing in and out and set long term w/Stanton in RF and cruz as an emergency COF(short term). Longterm they have Outfielders like Nomarra, Guzman, Beras, etc. They leave Kinsler where he's most valuable in 2nd for mid term and Profar longterm with depth in Garcia and Sardinas.
Moreland can finally develop and you leave Beltre in the 3 hole...his numbers would have been enormous if he had Hamilton as protection with Kins and Andrus ahead of him..Both are sufficient midterm solutions and they have Joey Gallow and Juremi profar waiting in the wings long term. Catching wise texas should just be conservative until they can groom their own catcher in Jorge Alfaro - a 5 star prospect, and could do much worse than a Shoppach/Soto platoon. They can afford to have a 3 way try out in ST with a lefty reliever allowing Ross and Grimm to compete with Nolasco. With these moves they can consistently focus on 3 main things in the near future: Front line Pitching, Bullpen help, and short term catching and otherwise be set each year.
