I would love Stanton. Could you imagine how beast he would be here????

First of all, and I don't want to be the Debbie Downer of the group, especially on the Friday following perhaps the worst 2 weeks of an off-season I've ever encountered, but the Marlins still need to sell tickets and Stanton is the one and only player selling tickets right now. Unless you sent them at least 1 big name like Elvis PLUS another player with a recognizeable name such as Nelson Cruz (and you'd have to eat some of his salary to do so)... PLUS someone that would be in their opending day line up such as L. Martin or Genrtry PLUS a top prospect (which prospect you're willing to deal is going to be determined on whether they take Martin or Gentry... if Gentry; you'd have to add Mike Olt or Perez... if Martin, you'd have to add Grimm or Buckle or someone that's in our top 10 but at the mid-bottom of that list. So, here are the two options:

1) Elvis+Cruz+Gentry+Olt
2) Elvis+Cruz+L.Martin+Grimm

Or, if they don't care about selling tickets right away and are looking for potential superstar(s), you replace replace Elvis with Profar.
1) Profar+Cruz+Gentry+Olt
2) Profar+Cruz+L. Martin+Grimm

Personally, I'd do any of those deals in a heartbeat. I posted on here, right after the huge Marlins/Blue Jays trade that Stanton could mash in this ball perk to the tune of 50+ HRs. He hit 37 last yr in an extreme pitchers park, with NO lineup protection, and after missing a month due to injury. That translates here into 50-55 HRs a year and Hamilton would become the biggest after-thought of all time.

Again, not to be the pessimist but it will never happen because the Marlins may be cheapskates, they aren't stupid and they know what Stanton's capable of... so unless you can change their mind by offering 1/2 thecurrent roster and most of what's left in prospects, it ain't gonna happen.

I said on here yesterday that the Rangers may need to seriously consider a semi-rebuild, or more of a retool ofd the roster, and at least see what teams are willing to pay for guys that won't be here in 2 or 3 years, when the team can once again be realistic contenders... and I'm talking about trading Beltre, Cruz, Murphy, Harrison, etc... and try to re-build the farm system with high level prospects that are on the cusp of the big leagues.
I'm completely dis-interested in what's (publicly) out there today in Dickey, Swisher, Bourne, etc... there's no point in giving these guys big money if you don't have the right core in place to win today... because really, the leftovers are nothing more than complimentary players instead of true game changers.

There's no way they trade Beltre. Not that very many teams could afford him.

So you're saying we need to restock our farm system? The one that is already one of the best in baseball? I'm confused.

I am not going to get my hopes up for Stanton. I really don't see him here. I wish he would come here and be the next superstar. But I would not trade Profar if I could avoid it. However, in my mind Profar is a one for one exchange or pretty close to it.I mean they are getting the best SS prospect in the game that has Jeter/ARod written all over him for 6 years!! Never mind he is dirt cheap.

Chuck, they MAY*** be getting that. But no one knows. Not you, not me, not JD, not Nolan. We WOULD*** be getting the best power hitter in the game that has Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, etc written all over him...and he doesn't take steroids....and he's only a few years older than Profar. Yes, you're going to have to give up more than Profar. Profar, Olt, Moreland, Buckel and Cruz would hopefully get it done. It's already been reported they want 3 prospects plus 2 regulars. This gives them 4/9 of their lineup and a top pitching prospect. If they said no, then there's just no way.

Would you guys be willing to do it for Olt + Buckel + Perez + Holland?

Cruz might be too expensive from someone to take, also.

MIA doesn't really need Andrus or Profar they already have Hechavaria (mis-spelled) who is probably ML ready right now. Tha's why I think you do what Scooby said trade Andrus off for 2 or three top preospects. There is a team out there that is willing to overpay for a young SS like elvis. Pittsburg I think is a good target they are desperate for a SS and Elvis would make them contenders. I think JD could snag Heridia/Tallion + Barret Barnes and then a lower level guy. If we packaged those 3 together with some of our guys (Olt or Perez) you might have a deal. Then you throw in another low level guy and take Nolasco off their hands. The guys we are giving them would be a couple years away, but things can't get worse for MIA they might as well stock the farm.

As much as I hate to say it and only because it is giving up Elvis, I agree with Fajita.

P1 I never really considered your point of view on Stanton but you are right.
