Forum > Why Not Blow Up The Roster?

I know I am being dramatic and I know I am going to be beaten to death in this scenario but I am serious, why not blow up the roster. In my mind the only untouchables are Darvish, Harrison, Profar, and Andrus. The rest traded for pitching and high level prospects. Your team gets cheaper, you get some serious talent back and you find out if your porspects are worth what you think they are worth. Besides this team as it stands right now is not competitive in the West and I see no real difference maker or two out there worth the price. I don't see another Hamilton/Greinke/Darvish on the horizon for this off season. And what would Beltre bring from the Dodgers? Or Cruz bring from Tampa, or Kinsler bring from Washington? Or Murphy bring from Boston, Philliy, or Detroit? Or any of the above mentioned palyers bring frm Seattle?

Why don't we move the Senator's to TEXAS...

I'll pretend for a second you didn't just suggest trading Beltre. But just because Hamilton left it doesn't necessarily mean Cruz or Murphy couldn't be moved for the right pitcher or DH. I'm really more worried about the bullpen than anything in the lineup at present.

The Angels are paper tigers again... so what? The A's won the division with a bunch of .240 hitters. I'm excited to see what Profar and Olt and Leonys can do in a full season, and assuming Kinsler and Cruz trend slightly upwards next year we should still score quite a bit. I also think Swisher or Pierzynski will be in the mix, not that I like either one all that much. The Rangers don't tip their hand to the media all that much, despite what everybody said at the Winter Meetings. I'm expecting a trade soon for a player (not necessarily a major one) that we haven't even discussed on this board.

Would should probably just close up shop and dissolve the team. Anytime you make the playoffs three straight years and don't win it all, you should just give up.

How much is MY now saying "THANK YOU, THANK YOU,THANK YOU". PLAN A is now make a long term plan, play the young guns, so trading Cruz in January and Beltre in July may just advance that Plan.

@Jondar
You comment made me realize that all's not lost. Yes the angels now have a to good to be true lineup, but pitching is everything in the majors and they don't have it. Pujols is starting to age, Hamilton collapsed at the end of the year and trout has no place to go but down. What I'm thinking is profar olt and leonys might have good to sub par years. But those 3 players have alot of potential.

The A's won the West with a boatload of pitching. You can hit .240 when you pitch well. Our staff as currently constructed has two reliable starters and who knows about Ogando.

It may be heresy but there is no point in being mediocre. Compete for it all or rebuild to do so.

Look guys, I knew that suggesting trading the beloved established stars on the team was goign to generate hate and discontent. But seriously think about what you get in return. Who realistically would give a ptential #1 starter for Cruz? Now on teh other hand why would the Dodgers not give up their best one or two pitching prospects for Beltre? The Dodgers are my example because they need a good 3B. So, again being hypothetical why not?
