Oh.

TXRAN fans are the victims here!

Wow.
Entitled much? Were you a fan during the Tom Hicks era?

New Era in DFW~ BASEBALL
I can't argue much with RyanXpress. His point is somewhat valid. Everyone has his/her opinion.
Many fans in the DFW area have been followers & supporters, since 1972. Some even longer, with
the Eagles, Spurs & Cats. Hey, if you're an 85y/o Ranger Pennant Waiver, do you really want to
hear about building for the future the next 5-10 years?
Take AL Detroit. Huge part of that area is unemployed, underemployed & basically a ghost city.
Yet the Club, allbeit a very small market, has one goal for thier fans/Club- proActive... Win It ALL.
Detroit is a great Baseball city, steeped deep in Historic Hall of Famers and Baseball memories.
Generations of Detroit families talking Baseball, before a Sunday noon meal, then off to the park.
PLAY BALL!
Wanting to "Win It All" is sports human nature, yes? Entitled, per se, sounds like a thought of beng
spoiled & expecting. Really? I wouldn't call our franchise a tenured front runner, to view being either.
Even as winners, one has a mind-set certainty that we'll get back to a similar level and progress forward.
It's called "Goal Oriented", which is what winners think, do & prepair to excel. Our Fans asking too much?
After all, the common goal for all MLB Teams, is to get to the World Series. Win the World Series AND be
"The World Champions"?

I can agree with you to an extent, Yes I want to win it all! But that's where we stop agreeing, just because we didn't sign Grienkie and didn't make the shields trade doesn't mean we can't or won't win it all!!! with the new rules even the Yankees are trying to get under the cap so spending wildly on a number 2 starter probably isn't in the Rangers best intrest. Did Detroit go all out last yr yes they did but they didn't win it all and lets talk about Detroit in a yr or 2 when they are choking on the dumb contract they gave Fielder! Or how about the Angels going all in with Pujols and Cj how did that work out? all that money got them a solid 3rd place finish! Or the philly's or the marlins or ..... I could go on and on about teams money whipping players and still coming up short! The rangers are set up right now to be a really good team for the next 5 yrs and beyond and if they don't get Josh or upton I bet they get someone who makes us forget about thse two. Did you know who Josh Redick was last yr before the A's got him from the Redsox? Cespedes everyone thought he could be a good player but not like what he was last yr or Trout NO ONE saw him being and MVP canidate before last yr now he might be the best outfielder in the game.
So just slow down and be happy that we are contenders every yr it could be worse.

Obliviate?

This is an absolutely ridiculous post! For one this the offseason is not over, and you have no idea what the front office has planned and what will happen!
Second, based on the money Greinke got or the package the Rays got what could the Rangers have done for either of those?! If the Rangers would have offered that money, which I think you can argue is too much, the Dodgers just would have raised their offer. I don't think there was a reasonable amount the Rangers could have offered that the Dodgers wouldn't have beaten.
And would you have offered a comparable package to the Rays for Shields? I sure as hell wouldn't have! The Rays, in my opinion just got away with robbery! The Royals way overpaid for 2 years of a good #2 guy.
Settle down!! This is the era of responsible spending and not overreacting. Do you really want to go back to the era of Hicks where this team spends $200 million on 1 player and gets no playoffs?
Seriously, how long have you been following the Rangers? Thank god the Rangers franchise is run by some people who actually think through things rather than just jumping at all the big names!
Kyle
Spot on, Kyle. I can't imagine the Rangers won't make any more moves this offseason.

The Jon Daniels era has been built on rational decision making. This line of thinking that you have to get someone to somewhat improve momentarily while conceding major future gains leaves you with a half a year of Adam Eaton and a full year of setup man Akinori Otsuka for Chris Young and a hole at 1b for the next 5 years because you traded Adrian Gonzalez as well. Jon Daniels is a great GM because he learned from his mistake.

NOTE:
ITZ NOT ABOUT ME, ever...
I didn't mention any content above, about liking or not on missed scnarios. I'm not miffed with losing Shields or Grienke.
I try to put myself in the "everyman fan" catagory, say over the Mini-Daniels character. Though I do delve in mind games.
I'm not management sided, per se. I merely stated, I can view opinions openly, without being condesending or austere.
I love to be proved wrong. This forum is not about me. I have nothing to prove, nor want to. I love Winning Baseball.
I do like results, form both player and Club Officials. I get excited w/rumors of Player A & B. I've seen every Texas Ranger trade angle coming over Wire, TV, Radio, News Papers and now WWW & Twiter, over what seems an infinity of TR/GM's.
When all is done in trades, resigns and players dusted off the shelves, I love it when OUR team takes that green field on Opening Day. All New and Right, for that sweet moment. Yeah baby, this is our year(always). That FEELING won't change.
Play Ball!

Basically, some in here needs to get over themselves. I understand the raging passion- I'm no less, but really guyz...

I agree with some of th eopinons posted here. While not a fan since 72 I have been one since 76 or so. I remember the Buddy Bell era, the steroid era, the Fergie Jenkins led staff and other teams that were bad beyond bad. I remember Bobby V managing the team and thinking if we didn't finish dead last we did pretty good. But as far as the Rangers owing me anyhting, not in the way you are saying. They owe me a few hours of entertainment on TV (live in NC) every night during the summer and some tense weeks in the off season. But as far as explaining the FO strategy or why we didn't pick up player X for $25 mil per year for 8 years, no. I do sincerely hope the absolute best fo rmy team and I will be heartbroken like last season if superstar A, B, or C fails miserably in the playoffs or the title clinching series. But I can't honestly say I could do a better job thatn JD or Nolan. Bottom line is I love this team. I have as long as I cna remember and no matter what I will be here until they move or drag me to Yankee land! Go Rangers!!

There is a great balancing act between the theories of win now and plan for the future. The ultimate goal of any sports team is to win the championship whether its it the World Series, Super Bowl, or The Stanley Cup. Coming close and ultimately losing it only appeases the masses for so long. In a day and age where the cost of going to a game for a family is exceeding $150 and is only going to go up the front office has a very unenviable task of walking this line.
So far this offseason we have seen the Rangers do very little to improve the team. Some may say getting rid of Michael Young was a good move. Some view it as a disaster. Ultimately I think it improves the team on paper, but to the casual fan they are extremely upset over it. Much like the Political Process the winner is made up by the uninformed lemmings that only pay attention when it gets flashy. Only thing these types know are what is force fed them through various media. They have not the desire and in many cases the capacity to try and look through the bias and make an informed decision based on their own findings. We all know people like this. We have all had mind-numbing discussions with atleast one person like this in the last few days. We've heard the uninformed rhetoric they spout;"The Rangers will rue the day they traded away the Greatest Ranger Ever!" "I can't believe the Ranges did this to Michael Young!" "What the Hell were the Rangers thinking letting The Face of The Franchise go?" etc. While ultimately they are reacting on emotion in a day and age where the game in no way reflects emotion outside of personal and team triumph. It does not matter to them. Michael Young was their hero. He was the lunchpail carrying good guy of their generation and they are pissed he is now gone. On top of that they are infact crucial to the economic viability of the team. If they say screw it and decide this team is done, we may very well be done. Less people coming to the game means less revenue. Our owners are not the Oppenheimers. They have said time and again they will be prudent and not overspend. Right now the ball is in JDs court. What will he do? When will he do it?
Zach Grienke was one person the Rangers were supposedly all in for. They let it be known they wanted him. We heard them say they would go against their philosophy when it comes to pitchers. This guy was a groundball inducing power pitcher that looked to be tailor made for this ballpark. It was rumored he absolutely loved everthing about this team. From the front office to the infield to the minor league talent we have. Multiple reports had him fawning over the chance to be here. And it all fell apart... again... What happened? Was it all a play to get the Dodgers to up their offer? Who knows? Ultimately all we can do is try to make an educated guess. But once again when all the chips are on the table the Rangers get an uncoveted semi-glossy second place trophy.
Justin Upton seems to be a player we would like to acquire. There was even a time when it looked the deal was all but done. Kevin Towers at the last second decided 2 years of Andrus wasnt worth 3 years of Upton. Again, close but no cigar. Is the deal dead comletely? Is there something else in the works? We have to believe so... right?
As it stands right now it seems options 1a and 1b possibly 2 and maybe 3 and 4 are off the table and our team is left with Olt(who in no way will ever challenge Beltre for playing time at 3d base barring an injury), Profar(equally blocked at SS and 2nd base by Andrus and Kins) and Perez(Who has for what seems like 10 years been a highly touted fuure Ace in the Santana mold yet stll mantains the same inconsistency that has plagued all but one year of his development).
To sum it all up Id have to say I agree with the OP. Its time for the Ranger front office to shit or get off the pot.
CaptainObvious
wait this is sarcastic right?

Like Francona said. Winning the winter doesn't mean you'll be the winner at the tend of the season. Sometimes it makes you an analyst.

Ok! We have been misled and utterly disappointed by JD and ownership. This how they re-pay us! We obliviate the attendance record and they re-sign us by signing friggin Soria?! No Greinke. No Shields. Time for them to realize we the fans should be compenstaed. What of our huge TV contract! Our shrinking Salaries! I am pissed!
