Why trade farm pieces for Upton now that Greinke is off the table?

When are we ever going to learn that pitching is key to a title.

We should go after Shields if we make a trade. And maybe resign Hamilton (can't believe I am saying that but we need that production).

Darvish, Shields, Harrison would go long way for us.

I mean, I am all for trading prospects minus Profar. But if we're going to trade some of the farm, let it be for good pitching.

I don't see the point in getting Upton now.

I don't want to see Darvish, Harrison and the pen getting burned out.

Look at the Giants the last 3 years. Two titles with a deep rotation, and not the best offense around.

I'd get Dickey. Go hard for Shields, with Upton if we have $$ room.

I liked the idea of going after Dickey from day 1. Those massive contracts (Grienke) constantly come back to bite the team in the ass. If dickey could work his black voodoo knuckle magic here that's going to be a nasty rotation. Add shields to that? God that would be awesome. Darvish, Shields, Dickey, Harrison, Ogando/Holland. Baseball dreams aplenty.

Get Upton because he could be a superstar again if he bounces back from his wrist injury or whatever was bothing him? And I agree, lets see if we can't get R.A. Shields!!!

Three big trades is going to take a lot from our system. Who do you think goes? Apparently Arizona cooled on Elvis bc they want more team control... The Dickey price is high too... I don't see the mega four team trade for Upton happening but trading for R.A. Shields and signing Hamilton seems more realistic, especially now that they have traded young and the casual fans are gathering their pitchforks.

Heh, I know you didn't mean to say "R.A. Shields" there, but it made me laugh. Either way, I'm kind of along your line of thinking that Shields and Hamilton is more likely at this point.

Hey P, I'm more than a casual fan and I'm starting to grab my pitchfork.

I said R. A. Shields on purpose because of keystone heavys post- In my baseball dreams I would like to see them sign Hamilton, then go after shields AND dickey, because pitching wins championships. I don't see another #3/4 starter like Loshe working, but who knows.. Anibal Sanchez is interesting, but doesn't seem to be in the rangers plans as of now. Over paying for Grienke is a bad move long term. Trading young (while we all love old face) is a move that is better for him and the future rangers. I think Hamilton is risky but we need a bat and draining the farm to make three big trades just doesn't seem practical according to JDs 1 year and 5 year plans. Of course this is all arm chair GM stuff but that's what this forum is for, right?
