Forum > What if he says no???
ALL Sports Fans have short memories, untill the end of a Star. We,
as fans, put ourselves in every situation demanding perfection. Yet we all
are imperfect. In reality, Baseball is a game of being above the drawn
line of normal or average. Cooled, somewhat cruel and uneasy reality below.
Not perfect, but Great at .406 BA... Ted Williams.
Bab Ruth was a bumb to many in the end, yet revered as Best among most.
Roger Maris led such a lonesome life under a glass ceiling, because of his feats.
Some retire or end as martyrs, as Lou Gehrig. Even his last months were criticized,
only to be saved of waiting cruelty, by his untimely death and suffering.
Saved, yet sad.
We'll forgive Mike Young for not being perfect. I hope he'll sleep well in cheers and
not what he reads from some of us. I've been that imperfect fan with Mikey too.
Shame on me. I want to remember Mike Young, as we called him out for years...
Standing O, for "Mr. Clutch".

If it comes to MY vetoing this trade rumor, he'll have a lot of expectations to live up to in 2013. It would cement his legacy in Texas one way or the other.
At this point I'd just assume keep him around, hope for a rebound, and see if he can net a solid 3 WAR season. I don't want to pay for him to play for another team and get a scrub in return. The $4-6M in salary relief wouldn't be worth it.

If he say no, Arlington burns.

If he says no then that's his right.

If he says no...
I say Oh No.

DFA X 2. Love that idea.

If MY says no then the Rangers should release him! According to reports the Rangers are already willing to eat as much as $10m of the $16m still owed him in 2013. Since he is basically a wasted roster spot, they need to cut ties and sign a player to the 25man who can contribute with limited AB's. i just don't see MY being happy in that roll. Don't get me wrong I appreciate everything MY has done for the Rangers. Infact I hope he comes back to the team as a coach once his playing days are over!

I'm not usually one to call anyone out around here, but anyone calling to DFA Young before Spring Training even rolls around is an over-reactionary idiot.
It isn't logical for a guy to go from a career year to being a sub-replacement player. If you can't get a fair trade for him then you roll with him through at least May and see if 2012 was a fluke. Re-evaluate from there. Some of you guys are just making us all dumber and spreading doom and gloom to the more naive corners of the fanbase.

I have never agreed more thoroughly with anything than at this very moment, Henchmen.

I think whether or not to DFA him depends on the feeling of the front office on whether or not Wash will be willing to use him correctly. He is not a useless player if used correctly.
Nate
Maybe one of you MY bashers could just shoot him.

Otherwise-SHUT UP--Its getting really old

the only thing wrong with MY at this stage in his career is WASH, being hell-bent on him batting every inning all game long ..... whew...... I'll be happy when wash is GONE!!!!
billydpowell
I got an idea, assign MY as wash's bench coach..... just keep him off the field.
billydpowell
Here is a better idea-GET PAST IT. JD & the front office know what they are doing.

People are allowed to talk about their team and its shortcomings on here. That's partly what this place is for. You need to get past that and quit letting your butthurt over people calling a spade a spade show through so much.

Got the MY lovers to jump offsides! 5 yards, replay 1st down.
The DFA is harsh, sure. But you have to ask yourselves - considering they're already willing to eat $10 million and get next to nothing in return - what's a few million more gonna matter? If you don't do it, he WILL get 600 ABs from Wash. I fail to see how that helps the club in 2013. Let me guess, the "odd years" argument?

While you're making predictions, can you also pull some winning lotto numbers out of that crystal ball for me?
The fact is none of us know what Washington is going to do. EVER. That's one of the reasons he gets so much hate around here. The 'Wash gut'. Don't get me wrong, because I'm certainly not making excuses for the guy, but I peg Ron Washington as the type of person who has a hard time admitting when he's wrong and one of those guys that become a brick wall during an argument. He sided with a struggling Michael Young in 2012. Then he doubled down after he struggled some more. Olt, Snyder & Gonzales didn't exactly take any playing time away from MY and JD didn't go out and get a viable replacement at the deadline like some people thought he should.
So Wash had his back against the wall, dug in his heels, and showed that stubborn side we've all come to hate.
That was 2012. I don't necessarily see any reason that is a predictor of 2013. I may be naive for thinking that, but you're fooling yourself if JD and the FO hasn't already had several discussions with Wash, MY, and playing time improvement isn't seen almost immediately in March.
The_Henchmen
1 I don't think we know what Wash will do with Young if he isn't traded.
2 But he acts like he'll simply do things the same way in 2013 as in 2012.
3 For that reason, I think Young getting traded has the potential to protect Wash from getting shown the door, because (a) I don't think JD/Nolan will ever directly command Wash on who to play, but (b) I do think if Wash doesn't use him smartly, then he'll get to see his "I'll go down with Young" stubbornness turned into a prophecy made and fulfilled.
4 I'm betting the tipping point would be seeing Wash heading down the same path as 2012, where they're seeing Young regularly sparing it up in the heart of the batting order and on the field, while better options for team success (esp the Profars, Olts, Gentrys, Martins of the world) are being given a smaller role in order to cater to MY.
5 I wouldn't expect it to wait until the 2013 off-season. Can see them telling Wash this offseason their evaluation of the various players, and Wash given a chance to learn. But can't see Rangers' front office being willing to subject their franchise to such utter stupidity as to waste another whole season on a manager holding the team back, if it comes to that.
6 I like Wash's demeanor, But I don't think he did a good job of holding players accountable in 2012 (Young being only one example), and I think his subpar managerial work made it harder for the team to win. This team deserves better, if not from Wash then from someone else. A manager should be making it easier for a team to win, not harder.

Why dont we just shoot Wash as obviously you think he sux at hos job? GOOD GRIEF!
Fan
@Fan
Why don't we just shoot you as you're obviously just a troll incapable of contributing anything of value to this forum.
And yes, I think wash should be fired.
Romeo212000
Fan, you may think Wash performed at an acceptable level in 2012. I do not.
And I suspect that the Rangers management wasn't satisfied either.
For a team this good, I want a good manager., and if Wash can satisfy that desire, I'm glad to have him here. But I've grown impatient with his counterproductive choices, when they don't produce success. "Quirky" or "instinctive" can sometimes be an excuse to justify making dumb decisions. No excuses.

Well it looks like this deal is going to happen and it's mostly up to MY and details. Now I'm not writing this to Bash MY's play last yr (we all know how bad it was) this man was the Face of the franchize for a lot of yrs and even last yr he played his ass off for the rangers! But with the deal looming what will your opinion be of MY if he flips JD and Nolan the bird and says no?
Also if he agrees with the deal how will you remember his time here?
As for me I moved to TX in 2000 so I wasn't around for the 90's ranger teams so MY has been a ranger about the same time I became a "fan" of the team. I think it will be a sad day the same as it was when my first hero Ryne Sandberg retired from the cubs. He was a great player and I'll always remember the great times I had watching him but it is a young mans game and it was time for him to move on just as it is for the FACE of the franchize Micheal Young.
