Forum > Rule 5 Draft - Rangers lose 1B prospect Chris MGuiness
Parks doesn't project him holding down 1B full time. Generally speaking, the Rule 5 draft is a bunch of "fringe" players who may eventually get "it" to click. That's pretty broad, but I wouldn't be too overly-heart broken over losing a player/ too excited about getting a player in the R5 draft.

This sucks more because now the next closest viable 1B option to the Bigs we've got is Ronald Guzman and less because McGuiness was really of any future value to us.
Here's to hoping Cleveland doesn't keep him on the roster all season, we get him back at half price, and in the mean time we find a serviceable 1B option until Guzman gets here (I'm still hoping Moreland is that guy.)

You aren't counting Olt as an option there?

Olt's real value is at 3B. Play him there or send him to someone who will (who preferably has a similar 1B type in a similar predicament).

Indians took him with the 5th pick and he was in AA Frisco last year.
He hit 268/.366/.474/.840 with 23 home runs. Here's his scouting report from MLB.com

"Originally a 13th-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the first baseman was dealt to the Rangers in the Jarrod Saltalamacchia deal in 2010. He missed a good chunk of the '11 season but bounced back with a solid '12 campaign, finishing tied for fourth in the Double-A Texas League in homers and seventh in RBIs. He continued to show a knack for driving in runs by leading the Arizona Fall League with 27 RBIs in 25 games en route to winning the AFL MVP Award. He planned to work on corner outfield play this offseason to help his versatility."
