Forum > Sources say MY's future is in his hands.
Hopefully they've made it clear in no uncertain terms that if he wants to play every day he needs to accept the trade.

In his hands huh? That's not good, he'll drop it or let this opportunity go sailing past his right, and Washington will put him out there everyday..again. You guys think that if Young goes to Philly, Wash will call him up on off days and STILL try to pencil him in a Ranger's lineup? Wouldn't put it past Wash.

In order to enforce that, they'll have to get to Wash. Some people have speculated that they don't want to have to give Wash an ultimatum, but if Young doesn't accept the trade...do they lay down the law, or watch as Young likely drags the Rangers down for another year?

While I doubt this has or will enter his mind it would probably be in his best interest to turn down the trade. With this being the last year of his contract, going to Philly and proving he can't really hit or handle 3B anymore on an everyday basis could be the final nail in his career's coffin. If he stays with us and plays defense sparingly while minimizing his exposure to RHP he's more likely to get a better contract from someone next offseason. That said, I imagine he's thinking the direct opposite and I'd actually be more surprised if he didn't accept the trade than if he did, though Wash's statements certainly hurt JD's leverage in talking with him about his playing time for this season.

SHIP'M OUT ... BRING'M IN
I think the hand was forced when JD shopped MY BEFORE the Winter Meetings.
I doubt that Wash was unaware either. JD seems prepared to force his view of the
Ranger Future. IF Swisher comes here, then that pretty much changes directions in MY.
I don't see Swisher coming here, due to age. Ian may be the overall player changing MY.
Daniels seems headstrong keeping Andrus & Profar, which I can not bitch about at all.
He also is locked in on getting Upton. If so, I look for Cruz to go. His salary seems a steal,
compaired to Victorino's. That may have hurt Swisher, unless he goes to desperate Seattle.
It certainly looks as if JD has complete control of the steering wheel, for our 2013 Rangers.

So sources are reporting that Michael Young's future is in his hands and he has to decide whether or not he wants to waive his 10/5 rights. If we were able to get Young off the roster while paying $10M or so of his salary, that'd be great, plus we'll likely get a prospect or two back. Should be interesting to see what MY decides to do, as he would be the for sure everyday 3B at Philly.
