Here is a name i'm surprised hasnt been through out there. Miguel Montero. He is signed through 2017 and if he performs how he has the past two years his 6/69.5 mil contract doesnt look bad at all. His last two seasons have been pretty phenomenal. 2012 .286/.391/.438/.829 and he did similar in 2011 that is an All star catcher right there, along with a little pop 15HR/88RBI along with a 4.3 and 5.0 WAR plau a WRC+ of 117 and 123. He is making less money than Napolis recent contract and is arguably better. I'm sure AZ is reluctant to trade but if we started with Olt and through in some high ceilings I could see them biting on something.

Season Team G PA HR R RBI SB BB% K% ISO BABIP AVG OBP SLG wOBA wRC+ Fld BsR WAR

2011 Diamondbacks 140 553 18 65 86 1 8.5 % 17.5 % .187 .317 .282 .351 .469 .353 117 4.0 -4.0 4.3
2012 Diamondbacks 141 573 15 65 88 0 12.7 % 22.7 % .152 .362 .286 .391 .438 .364 123 4.7 -5.3 5.0
2013 Bill James 137 555 16 63 79 0 10.6 % 21.4 % .163 .330 .272 .357 .435 .341
Total - - - 654 2395 73 281 334 2 9.5 % 19.3 % .173 .318 .275 .351 .448 .346 108

Those are his last two seasons, that is all pretty impressive. Now AZ doesnt have another C on the 40 man roster, but if this trade where made all they would have to do is find a stop gap for 3 years or so (which i'm sure would be possible, heck maybe throw Soto in the trade) until Stryker Trahan is ready. Trahan might end up being just as good as Montero and right now Montero's trade value is at its highest.

No, Todd. No. There is a reason his name isn't coming up. No GM wants to hear the ask for him.

what's the reason, henchmen?

@G

I think he's saying that the asking price would so high that no one wants ask.

He just signed that deal, it wouldn't make a lot sense for them to trade him now.

Young, controllable franchise catchers just don't get traded. They're probably the largest market shortage in professional sports. A package to get a guy like Montero, Posey or Weiters would probably have to start with a guy like d'Arnaud and go from there. Not many teams have the players to make a deal like that work and even fewer would be willing to pull the trigger.

Maybe I was a bit irrational in the thinking. It was just one of those things that hit me an I went with it hahaha. I was living in fantasy land for a minute there. I'm back now.

On the other hand how do you know my real name henchman?

Montero is a future DH not a catcher. They have Jaso and that Zunino guy is about to hit the majors too. So let's not act like Montero is this untouchable franchise guy like Posey, Weiters, Sal Perez, D'Arnaud, etc.

Having said all that there is no incentive for Seattle to trade him at his age. I would ask about Jaso, he destroys RHP. Soto/Jaso platoon would be acceptable assuming we have either Hamilton or Upton in the mix.

@ jondar, wrong Montero but that's not a bad thought.

Hahahahahahahaha

Sorry my brain is fried from checking MLB twitter feeds all day. Where is my dunce cap?

Fajita, you used to go by "Todd", remember?

December 4, 2012 at 8:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterAndy

That is true, how could I forget that? lol I think my brain, like Jondars is a bit fried right now. It is certainly a bust time of year for them to have the winter meetings, there is way to much going on right now!

What if I'm Evan Grant and I secretly know everything? And what if I orchestrated the whole Dave Barnett debacle so I can assume PBP duties? Have you thought about it?

December 4, 2012 at 9:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterThe_Henchmen

Yes.

I would go watch the New York Rangers...thats basically the same thing right?

December 5, 2012 at 10:55 AM | Unregistered CommenterFajita

I played intramural softball against the school's nationally ranked hockey team, which should not have been permitted. They were pretty good players, swept our league, and pounded the ball over the fences with consistency. The NYRangers would be better. Yes, I would watch them play baseball.

If EG assumes PBP duties, there will be letters written and maybe things thrown.
