is something like:

Andrus/Olt for Upton/Bauer

Holland/Grimm for Carlos Santana

Young/Murphy/Cruz for Cliff Lee

resign Hamilton for 4/100.

2 players making 50 AAV might not be possible (along with the trades/Hamilton contract, obviously), and we might have to throw in some lower level prospects in some of those deals to make it work, but goodness, that would be a fun team to watch.

There wouldn't really be a true DH, but you could roll with Hamilton at DH with Gentry in CF and Martin in LF some of the time. Maybe trade for Butler. Either way, that would still be an incredible lineup.

A rotation with Yu, Harrison and Lee at the top would be pretty good. Ogando would be a good enough 4th and Bauer/Perez could compete for 5 until/if Lewis returns.

Bye bye MY #1

Unless we trade for a guy like Kemp or McCutchen (which ain't gonna happen), I don't want anyone that plays CF other than Gentry or Martin. It's time to let them play, and possibly fight for the everyday spot. Josh can't play CF anymore, and I don't want him out there. I suspect that if Josh is on the team, Wash will play him there unless his life is threatened (see also playing Young every day), and I'm not sure J.D. is willing to go that far. Hence, I'm not sure I want Josh back.

First and foremost, I want a 5th starter. I don't want him to be the guy that, when we look at him, we know he would be the odd man out of the rotation should this team go to the playoffs. I would like a #1 or 2 pitcher. I'd like Greinke (as would everyone else). If we don't end up signing him, I'd like to see a trade for Shields or someone of that caliber.

I'd like to see at least one more reliever with substantial experience. I would like Koji back. I wouldn't mind Adams, though I heard last year he wants to close and so I'm not sure Texas is his first choice this year.

We still need a catcher. I suppose we could roll with Martinez or Schmidt, and honestly, if we were to pick up a #2 or above pitcher and a MOTOB, I would be okay with that, if they prove they can be effective with our pitchers. Speaking of MOTOB...

Finally, I would like a MOTOB, but not at the expense of pitching as above. A trade for Upton or someone like him would suffice. I would probably be okay with Ike Davis or LaRoche or Morse or Goldschmidt, to name a few possible 1B candidates. I could even get on board with a trade for Butler, except I fear that that might lead to Young playing 1B most of the time, which makes me shudder.

Well, a guy can dream, can't he?

Resign Ham
Murphy and Grimm for Josh Willingham (DH)
Moreland, Perez, and Garcia for Shields

@ Andy

Against righties, you play Hammy in the field and you have to sit either Murphy in LF or Martin CF. Do you think maybe knowing Hammy needs to be given the odd break to keep him fresh RW will DH him more often against righties this season (he only DH'ed 10 games last season) so we could have all 3 lefty-hitters in the lineup instead of just two?
