Forum > Sweet Jesus a Mike Young rumor!
You beat me to the post. Christmas has come early
TheOtherRyan
Do it.
It won't be hard to get him to approve it. He can be an every day 3b in Philly or a bench bat in Texas. He'll take Philly.
Romeo212000
The Phillies have interest in the Rangers' Michael Young for third base, but they'd need Young to approve the trade and the Rangers to pick up part of the tab. Young, 36, is owed $16MM in 2013, though part of his salary is deferred
This is the first time I've seen anyone report that a portion of his salary is deferred. 1) When did this happen, and what does it mean for our actual 2013 budget? 2) What would we be getting back? I'm guessing Domonic Brown is too much to ask?
The_Henchmen
Then what will BBTiA have left to complain about? Ian Kinsler's body language? :''(
But seriously, Young + $13 mill to Philadelphia for some single-A nobody = An unexpected but very welcome Christmas present.

Oh
My
GOD
Txball
Out with Young, in with Billy Butler, amirite?!?!
Coylio
Once Philly watches MY wave at 1-2 outs fly by him into LF EVERY game he will be a bench boy there as the have NO DH in the NL. Would love to see him go but unless a bad contract playing 3rd trumps a bad contract pitching I see no reason Philly would make that move.
lwayne
Ruben Amaro is anti-saber. He's exactly the kind of idiot who would pull this trigger.
Scooby Dude
The Phillies are mostly young and inexperienced. They could use some leadership.
Make it happen, J.D. We have no reason to think Wash won't play Young every day, which we all know is a bad idea. Do it.
...it's not going to happen, is it?
Andy
I'll kinda miss our longest-serving Ranger. He was one of the better contact hitters in the game up until '11. 15th on the active players list in hits, 7 time All-Star, 4th on the Rangers' all-time offensive WAR list, Rangers' all-time leader in hits and runs scored, etc. I know people are saying good riddance but that's kind of a cold sendoff for somebody who was one of our best players for so long. I wonder if maybe we should retire his number.
Kristen W.
Young came up wearing #2. #10 was previously retired for Sundberg; however, the number was allowed to be reactivated.
D
Kristen there is no doubt in my mind that Young will be in the Rangers HOF and have his number retired for those reasons you mentioned. I just don't want him anywhere near a starting lineup on my favorite team right now.
Marktown
Kristen, no one on this board has ever disparaged MY's tenure as a Ranger. His number will undoubtedly be retired, and he will be remembered as one of the greatest Rangers ever. It would have been great for him to finish his career here, but that's such a rarity nowadays, it doesn't bother me that much.
He's a lot like Berkman in Houston. And I would love for him to go to Philly and win a ring, I really would. Would I love it more for him to win one here? Absolutely, but as a situational substitute and utility infielder, not as an everyday 1B/DH where he is more detrimental to that dream.
And people here don't want him to be unceremoniously kicked to the curb. We would love for him to retire gracefully. Join the front office. But he won't do that. He still believes he can play. And maybe he can, but I don't think we can afford to play him everyday anymore and our coaching staff may be too stubborn to bench him. So a trade to a contender may be best for both sides.
TankTheFrank
Okiez, but make sure you don't boo him when he comes back here as a member of the opposing team or I'll beat you up...
Kristen W.
I have no doubt MY would get a standing ovation if he returned here on another team. I know I would.
Romeo212000
Maybe the Rangers can get Darrin Ruf for MY.
primi timpano
Young the Ranger leader in production for many years is worth applauding.
But ole Wash' rolling his corpse out to the infield so ground balls can be hit past him unimpeded, or sending him to the plate so he can roll into another easy grounder to short or provide a rally-killing DP right in the heart of the lineup, is something I can readily live without.
ansel
Yall are thinking too small. Make it part of a deal for Lee. Salary for Salary. they take a hit for one year, we take a bigger hit for 4, but we'll get a hell of a pitcher. We're not getting Greinke, Lee is better than Dickey for all willing to accept that trade, unless JD is gonna pull a King Felix trade out of his ass, Lee might be the best bet for a "ace" pitcher this off season.
Yu Betcha
I think Ansel's post sums it up the best... at least for me. It seems like a lot of people are not willing to place the blame for Young's obvious misuse on Wash where it belongs. No player in baseball is going to ask not to be played and MY doesn't create the lineups.
Dark Reins
We all recognize wash's ineptitude as a manager. Frankly, I want him gone. But for the time being he's staying put so that only leaves one other part of the equation to remove to avoid another wash/FACE debacle that cost this team the division again.
Romeo212000
I still say Michael Young for Manager
Virgil
The deffered money is like $1M/per year only @Henchman
Sending Young to a WS contender like the Phillies to be a fulltime 3B isn't a cold send off. I Thu I he would rather go there than Colorado. @Kristen
How about Pudge for manager? @Virgil
As far as Young to the Phillies. How about $12M and Young for Horst or Valdes. They are two good left handed relievers.
007
I'm thinking NYY may make a bid for Young.
Losing ARod to Hip Op. Swisher FA no sign.
One year contract. Sounds like a Super Utility!
Maybe he gets 500AB's too? Philly? No DH.
Young would be nutz to turn away from NYY.
HubZ
I thought about the Yankees' too Hubz
In fact, after having surgery on both hips, Young might very well be a better defensive 3rd baseman than A-Rod even assuming A-Rod ever plays again. I seriously doubt that Jetter will be able to play Short Stop again either. If he does he won't be very good. I've had a broken ankle. The leg is never the same again. At best Jetter will be a DH or a COF.
The Yankees are in for some big hurt next near I think
