What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
With Martin signing with the Pirates. Napoli looking for a four year deal. Hamilton still up in the air. Its time for the Rangers to get serious before the market is picked clean AGAIN! The Rangers are doing just what they said they wouldn't. They are waiting on Hamilton and the market is being picked over. A Ranger line up with Pierzynski and LaRouche will be dominant. It's time to stop fooling around! Adding those two left handed power bats to this lineup could more than make up for the loss of Hamilton. It would then enable the Rangers to trade Olt, Moreland and prospects for either Justin Upton, Gincarlo Stanton or James Shields. I love JD, but the early bird gets the worm!
Though, I'm not opposed to either of those - JD signed Adrian Beltre in January.
Reporting today that JD made Martin a two year offer before he accepted the 2/$17 from Pitt. Money must've been much lower.
Based on last years data:Last years lineup of C=Napoli, 1B= Moreland, 2b=Kinsler, 3b= Beltre, ss=Andrus, lf=Murphy,cf=Hamilton, rf=cruz,dh= young (combined WAR of 17.6)
Lineup with Laroche, Pierzynski, (Profar assuming a 3.0)C=Pierzynski, =LaRoche,2B=Profar,3b=Beltre,SS=Andrus;LF=Murphy,CF=Gentry;RF=Kinsler;DH=Cruz (combined WAR of 27.7)
What team would win the most games? Then ask what if we were able to pull off a trade for Stanton? If we offer Olt, Moreland, Kinsler, Perez and a prospect they have to listen, do't they? I'm just sayin, lets dont assume there is only one way to win!
Jeebus, man. Jon Daniels knows what he's doing. Enjoy the ride.
Who the F* decided to push the panic button this early on a Friday?
Chill out and watch some YouTube videos for a while, man. If we 'lose out' on AJ, Martin and LaRoche I won't be losing any sleep over it. Those aren't impact players. They're expensive stop gaps that we'd be settling for. A deal for a catcher will get worked out and I'd rather let the kids have some time to play.
They do not listen to Stanton for Olt/Moreland/Kinsler/Perez + 2nd tier prospect. They would not want Kinsler because he is on the hook for $75M. They just unloaded a lot of salary. Personally, I hope a deal with Stanton does not get done because they would likely demand Profar/Olt/Perez plus another guy like Alfaro, Buckel or Odor. I don't think anyone has to argue about Stanton because JD isn't going to pay that kind of price.
IF JD did call Miami and said, "Yo, give me Stanton and I will give you Profar, Olt, Perez and your choice of Alfaro/Buckel/Odor," Stanton would be in a Ranger uniform if Miami has any sense at all.
ANY Stanton deal is going to start with Profar. Well, maybe Elvis + Olt and our entire AA, A, and low A rosters. I'd much rather try to get J-Upton without depleting the farm. I hope Texas & AZ revisit during the winter meetings and structure something around Upton/Bauer for Elvis, either Olt OR Perez + lesser prospect like Luke Jackson, Roman Mendez, Sardinas or Garcia. We would get the power bat to replace some of Hamilton's offense, would have a SS with surplus value for years to come (vs. having to worry about signing Elvis to a $125M+ deal), and would have a young pitcher with Ace potential. Just my 2 cents...
Someone needs to be slapped back to reality.
Drink a cup of coffee and breathe...it will all be okay.
The Marlins have said they're not trading Stanton right now. I doubt even a great trade for them would be seriously entertained, and certainly not one like Olt, Moreland, Kinsler, Perez and a prospect (no offense to anyone; that's just not a good trade).
"IF JD did call Miami and said, "Yo, give me Stanton and I will give you Profar, Olt, Perez and your choice of Alfaro/Buckel/Odor," Stanton would be in a Ranger uniform if Miami has any sense at all."
Probably, but given the kind of stupid things that organization has done recently, I'm not sure they'd entertain that trade, even though it's almost certainly way too much for Stanton. He's pissed off at their shenanigans (rightly so) and, right now, looks unlikely to stay there long-term. They probably aren't contending for a couple years, so they really could get a ton for Stanton if they were willing to trade him. Instead, like Felix, he will likely languish on a mediocre team for a few more years of prime production.
Would like LaRoche. Don't really want A.J. unless the Rangers can't work something out with Nap or trade for someone better. We could do a lot worse than A.J., but he's clearly in the second or third tier of my preferences.
Ok, guys i'm going to chill out. If ten guys tell you, your drunk, i will give you the keys. My point is I think we would be a better team with Laroche and Pierzinski than with Hamilton and Napoli.
The bulk of offseason major trades and signings happens during the Winter Meetings so be patient and next week you'll be rewarded with all craziness you can handle. Something guys need to work on: delayed gratification haha...
@Ric: Based on what I anticipate each of them to cost, I think we're a better team with LaRoche and Napoli.
Just for kicks, Jamey Newberg offers a wonderful daily email report with all kinds of Rangers information updates and supplemental information on our ballclub.
Very good daily read, particularly for the "offseason anxious."
BRASH+... umm, No ThanX:
We may very well end up wth AJP, as one of two C's. I'm not sure AJ's nose to nose demeanor fitZ toowell within our Ranger Clubhouse.
OMG, could you imagine the nightmare with BOTHAJP & Nick Swisher at the same tme?The spit sling'n between each, would stop many a chess game!
@HubZ: I don't know what you're on, but I wish you'd share.
Well, wth a head like a cotton ball and ears like tin cans, this head cold I have seems to have no cure. I've now gone to a motion sickness pill called Meclizine. Share? My head IS spinning, but not from trades(yet). After hearing JD on GAC last night, I've perked up a tad.Sounds like JD is holding a few cards close to vest andgo ALL IN. Brace yer selfs KiddoZ.
More like LaDouche*! Yeah...it's been a long day. I kid.
So what we need is a 33 year old first baseman coming off a career year (classic overpay) and a 36 year old catcher coming off a career year? Dominant lineup? Seriously?
This is why JD & staff make the big bucks. Let the other GM's spend their new found TV money on old players because the WAR stat says so. And when hey shrink back to their career avarages (LaRoche was negative WAR the year before Pierzinski just barely over zero) they can feel better because a one dimensional view of the sabre stats the year before said so.
Trust in JD. If there's a way he'll find it.
What about eggs?
AJ Pierzynski is a massive asshole. I don't think I could really ever see myself rooting for him in a Rangers uniform.
