Forum > Greinke/Hamilton/Napoli: They should be our 3 this FA Season

TXRAN brass...Quit screwing around and get this done! We needed a true TORP last year, hence Greinke fits th bill.
Napoli is the type of player that personifies swagger and heart. A TRUE RANGER!
Hamilton has the purest skills of everyone. He sells tickets and should be considered a hero for all to look up to!
Raise ticket prices a buck and all will be well. Quit screwing around JD and crew!

THIS GIVES THE RANGERS A TRUE TORP, A PLAYER WITH SWAGGER, AND A HERO WITH THE PUREST SKILLS OF EVERYONE, ALL FOR THE PRICE OF ONE EXTRA DOLLER ON THE ORIGINAL TICKET PRICES!!!

WHY HASN'T ANYBODY CONSIDERED THIS BEFORE?!?!?

Because Texas is smart and doesn't raise ticket prices to buy players. Thats how you get into Yankee like situations. Plus ticket prices are already being raised to help play for renovations.

That would be about 400 mil + for the next 5 years or about 80 mil a year. A dollar a ticket would raise about 3 mil a year. Even pay terlits would not close the gap.

My season tickets went up 3 dollars already

Are you Milton Bradley? Because you're playing with Monopoly money if you think we sign even two of those three.

I simply tell Grienke's agent go negotiate the best deal you can with the Angels present it to us in writing and we will top it by 15%

I'd look at Hamilton if he backs off the 5 to 7 year deal he supposedly wants. I don't think it is the money per year so much as the number years he wants to make that money

If he can't get what he wants how about 2 years at 50 million? I'd feel a lot better about a higher price for fewer years. I doubt that would get it done but it is beginning to look like some of the teams are a bit afraid of Josh. His value might not be as high as he thinks. A two year contract would still give him time for one more good pay day if he can get his drug use a little farther behind him. If he signs I put him in Left Field or DH. No more Center

I like Napoli but to resign him he'd need to come fairly cheap. I think he had a career couple of months with Texas the rest of the time he is sort of mediocre

Are you Milton Bradley?

At first I thought you meant the ballplayer... guess I need more sleep haha.

Cosmo - If you offered that to Greinke's camp, they'd use that as leverage with the Angels, so the Angels would jack up their price just to make the Rangers pay more. Not the smartest business plan to tell your competitor's your strategy.

I agree with signing Greinke, your method is a bit off but he needs to be signed. Napoli is out of our price range now with Boston and New York bidding for him. SO catcher will be Arencibia, Russsel Martin, or AJ Pierzynski with someone else as back up maybe Shoppach. I think there is a 50/50 shot Josh is back, everyone seems to be scared of Josh with good reason. The perception of him quitting his relapses, his health, etc. have worked against him. Plus his attitude towards dropping th eball in Oakland and not producing when it counted this season, really hurt him in the eyes of baseball. I read somewhere that one GM said "He will break someones bank then break someones heart." Stanton coming to Arlington I think is abotu 70/30 that he does not get traded. But that is just a wild guess. Man did the Jays get better fast.

How long do we wait for Hammy to decide before we move on to another OF'er? Is it:

1. a case of stretch it out and wait as long as possible because the longer Hammy is on the market, the more reasonable his contract demands will get, or;

2. if a solid OF'er becomes available in a trade, then go for it and screw Hammy and/or;

3. if Greinke is willing to sign with us, screw Hammy or;

4. if another TORP becomes available in a trade who's making less than what Greinke is asking for, we screw Greinke and can still afford to re-sign Hammy.

We're going with the same payroll we did last year ($120-$130 mil) so the only way we can afford Greinke is if we don't re-sign Hammy, and the only way we can afford to re-sign Hammy is if we don't sign Greinke. We're limited to:

1. Signing Greinke and dealing for an OF'er (plus a C (I'm positive Nap is gone))
2. Re-signing Hammy and dealing for a TORP plus a C

We have the cash to sign only one of Greinke/Hammy but the prospects to use to fill the other holes. We still have the 7th/8th-inning setup holes to fill too. It's a complex situation but so much fun to think about - so many different permutations of possibilities. Being a GM must be extremely fun.

I'm sure being a GM is a blast. Hell, just look at the fun Alex Anthopoulos and Michael Hill had yesterday.

Oh, yeah...there's no way we sign all 3 of them. If we get Greinke and Nap I'll be happy.
