What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
OK guys I am not sure if this has been mentioned or not on here, but I have been saying this for awhile now. I think the Angels make a play for Josh this offseason for the reasons below. Give me your thoughts.
1. They have the money after ridding themselves of Hunter/Wells/Haren/Santana's salaries, not to mention they have the new TV deal money as well.2. They need an outfielder3. They need a left handed middle of the order bat (Morales is all they have).4. They have shown they will spend the money on big contracts5. Not sure of this relationship but my theory.....CJ might be considered a running buddy for Hamilton with his Str8 Edge ways. 6. They would love to stick it to the Rangers with an Ex-Ranger.7. One last assumptive theory is that I don't think Josh is happy with the Rangers and how he feels he was treated. This might play into his decision if the Halos are willing to pony up some cash.
I have said all along that I think this is where Hamilton ends up. I could obviously see other landing spots for him as well, but to me this is a very logical team for him to end up with.
Trout, Albert and Josh at the top of that lineup!!!! Holy Cow.
My mistake on Vernon Wells' contract. They still have that on the books. I thought he came off the books this year. Damn what a horrible contract that was.
It's like a bad dream you can't wake up from for them.
Let 'em have him. Imagine how that lineup will look in 2015 years with Pujols & Josh 3 years older and making $50M, Morales, Trumbo & Borjous gone via free agency, and the top of their rotation and middle infield all sitting on or around their last year under contract.
Without a strong farm system they'll be back to building a team the only way they know how: spending money on over-priced free agents. That isn't a recipe for success. Even the Yanks figured that out.
I don't see the Angels making a big play for Hamilton. They will make a very big push for Grienke, and if they don't get him they will likely look at Sanchez, Lohse or other similar pitchers. I would be extremely surprised to see the Angels spend a lot of money on anyone but Grienke. At this point I think Hamilton is too risky for a GM that seems to be on shaky grounds.
When did the Angels get rid of Vernon Wells?
Come on guys, you have to admit this was a pretty good call!!!
Lol your a fucking prophet bro. good call.
I'm hysterically laughing right now at how spot on it was...when i clicked this to read. i expected this to be posted at like 1 oclock when all thist shit was going down not 8 this morning when we all assumed Josh would still be a Ranger! James Kelley said it best! you are a prophet!
Sometimes I get lucky on predictions. I have been saying this for months now but didn't post it here until November.
Bittersweet, as my little boy was a big Himliton fan. Kinda wish I was wrong for that reason.
Dear God, how I laughed when I read this back in November... I thought about it for 2 minutes. Laughed, got mad, then shrugged it off.
Incredible. This hurts, man.
Yeah, nice call there.
I'm glad of the change of direction.... It is time for Jurickson Profar to show why he is such a phenom who Wash refused to play down the stretch....
CJ and Hamilton will be playing XBox when they are no shows down the stretch
2015? With all of thier cash & real GM balls, I doubt they worry too much. They've had GMjr and Wells. In the mean time they GO2 or WIN the World Ser-ious in 2013 and 2014. Baseball has flipped to another Era, right in front of us. Pete Rose's $2mm overpay contract seems a faint memory now. Baseball 2012...
2015? So the Angels get three years to build their farm system back up and in the meantime they have a roster that is basically locked up? How is this bad for them?
Weaver, Wilson.... set. Aybar, Kendrick.... set. Trout, Trumbo,... set. Hamilton, Pujols.....set.. That's a decent core and they will have a huge amount of payroll flexibility after that 2015 season.
It's not like the Angels haven't done a good job of adding players internally or using the farm to obtain players. Borjos, Trout, Trumbo, Aybar, Callaspo, Morales, Weaver, are all products of their farm system. Ianetta and Frieri were acquired using farmhands. 7 of the 9 spots in the lineup were products of the farm system as was their ace.. I'm betting they let Morales move on after this year but at worst the would only have two guys as old as 33 from this group - their catcher and Weaver. Aybar, Trumbo, Callaspo, Trout, Borjos, Frieri, Ianetti, Morales, are all younger than Kinsler.
The scary part about the Angels is that they seem to have learned from past mistakes. The new GM seems less willing to spend big money on mediocre players while not thinking twice about going after pursuing.
Their roster and payroll certainty the next few years really makes it so they can work to rebuild their farm system., and its not like they will be getting less TV money in three years, they will be getting even more.
That should have read that their new GM doesn't seem to think twice about pursuing game changing types..
