What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Woah. He could be a better defensive Elvis with the exact same bat RIGHT NOW. I wouldn't even be surprised if they decided to keep him and Profar at 2B, then trade Elvis. That would be the best defensive infield in baseball for the next couple seasons and best up the middle for at least 5 years for cheap.
Or we just trade for Upton. Crazy.
It sounds like this pursuit is in the past tense i.e. not happening anymore. But who knows. This is really bold by the Rangers, but you'd think Atlanta would just try and flip Simmons for Upton on their own. Maybe that's not good enough for Arizona and that's where the Rangers come in with a prospect that the Braves can't/won't match.
The most confusing part is what the Braves would give up Simmons for. Do they like Olt that much more than Arizona does?
yeah....we're not getting him lol
It would probably have to be something like Olt and Sardinas for Simmons and Delgado but honestly I don't know enough about Simmons to judge what the consensus is on him. Although, when he was in the minors I thought he was considered to be mostly glove and little bat. He showed well in limited time last season and his minors numbers improved each year but I don't really trust 182 plate appearances at the MLB level to be all that telling as to future success, especially since they were fairly scattered around injuries. He's still a high quality shortstop and perhaps the Diamondbacks would consider him to be a worthwhile centerpiece in an Upton trade but I agree with Jondar that it seems strange that the Braves wouldn't just try to make that trade themselves if that was the case. Perhaps Ari. is also looking for an outfielder that can step in this year to help ease the transition as that is the only position I can think of where the Braves might not have the kind of depth they're looking for.
