Forum > Haren

I've been wondering whether the Rangers should look at Dan Haren.

They take out trash on Tuesdays 'round here.

So, I assume you think this is a stupid idea. Not worth exploring at all.

Worth exploring... eventually. I don't think teams are banging down Haren's door to ink him for 3/$40 or anything. Still holding out hope for a Shields trade.

I'd look elsewhere.

In my opinion, Haren's hype is way better than his performance. He's been touted for the last few years as a #2 or #3, but I think that if you have a good rotation he's a #4 at best.

Because of the rep, Haren will probably be able to get some team to gamble that he's a #2 or #3, and pay him commensurately.

What the Rangers need to target is a legit #1 or #2, not another #4 or #5. They have #4 and #5 types running out the butt.

Haren got traded to the Cubs and the Cubbies pulled the plug on the trade 'cuz he's not fit.

@Ed: From yesterday's LA Times:
“It’s definitely a little frustrating to hear, being as I’ve started all but three games over a nine-year career,” Haren said in an email. “I haven’t heard why exactly they pulled out, but I finished the year healthy and did pretty well down the stretch. I’ve never missed any time because of injury other than the three weeks this year because of my back. when I came back, I had to be cleared by doctors, so obviously, I was healthy. As for any other ‘injury,’ I’ve had very minor issues over the years, but nothing significant at all. My arm is in great shape, and physically, I’m in a very good place right now. I’m very, very confident that I will return to form next year.”

@Ed, part II:
The day it happened, and subsequently, I read that the Cubs backed out because Marmol would not waive his no-trade clause.

the only issue Haren was not great last year was injury...and to think that was his floor shows how good of a pitcher he has been. Dude shits 5 WAR seasons when healthy. I'm dtf for a one year deal with him.

I only want to acquire Angels who will come to Arlington and own the ever loving crap out of their former team by being absolute monsters, a la Mike Napoli. If Haren can do that, I'm in favor. Little brings me as much joy as miserable Angels fans, especially when that misery is caused by one of their former players.

His second half makes him look like he still is a 4 WAR pticher.

Greinke, Darvish, Harrison, Haren, Ogando- And ship my favorite let down (Dutch) to Miami plus half our minor league system for STANTON so he can smash 50 bombs a year here.
