Forum > Salvador Perez

He was the #1 defensive catcher in the Al this season throwing out 41.9% of all base stealers small sample size but this kid is legit. Potential 20-25 hr .330 BA .340 OBP .810 OPS hitter. He is contracted through 2016 5yrs/7M team options '17-'19.

What would it take to pry him away from KC?

November 8, 2012 at 7:26 PM | Unregistered Commentergtownfan

No way KC trades him, especially with such an insanely cheap contract. Not to mention Salvador's a very talented young player at an ultimately premium position.

Only way the Rangers could pry Perez from KC is with a shadowy organization of jedi ninjas, oh wait...

Not happening. KC is going to build around him, Hosmer & Moustakas. It would be a terrible mixed message to their fans if they move him - not to mention their GM would probably lose his job over it unless he got a Tex+ package in return.

I'd start with Sardinas, Perez and Grimm if that's not laughed at I would add Font. If we could swing a deal for Upton and Bauer, Bauer could be used as the center piece for Perez.

Sal Perez and D'Arnaud are pipe dreams. I'd love to get Hector Sanchez from the Giants. He's currently blocked by Posey so one would think he's available for the right price. Cruz (or Murphy) plus a prospect or two who are not from Curacao.

S. Perez is going nowhere. Just stop with these ridiculous trade proposals. All options picked up, Perez will make $21M over the next 7 years. That's $3M AAV. If each WAR is $4.5M, he needs to produce 4.6 fWAR in 7 years to earn his money. If each WAR rises to $6M, he needs to earn 3.5 fWAR in 7 years to justify his contract.

Do you see now why it would be monumentally insane for KC to trade him? He earned 2.6 fWAR in 76 games last year. He might make 5.0 fWAR next season.

This is a guy who could easily earn Kansas City over $100M in surplus value the next 7 years.

So eric what you really mean is that to get Perez we'd have to throw in MY?

November 9, 2012 at 7:56 AM | Unregistered Commentergtownfan

he just signed a cheap ass long term deal. Even if they thought about trading him now you'd have to start with Profar Olt Perez martîn and Buckel

November 9, 2012 at 8:34 AM | Unregistered CommenterVince

No reason for KC to deal him, so I don't see it happening.

I like Hector from SF and also Sandy Leon from the Nats. Leon has Ramos, Flores and Suzuki at the ML level so maybe he could he had for a CF like Bourbon+ or Beltre+?

Not sure what the value would be, but Leon is a really good defensive catcher from scouting reports.

If:

Andrus/Grimm/Buckel = Upton/Bauer Cost 9.25M next 2 years

Bauer/Mendez =Salvador Perez Cost wash next 2 years

Uehara Cost guessing 7M next 2 years

Greinke Cost guessing 50M next 2 years

Cabrera Cost Guessing 12M next 2 years

We could Sign Greinke and one of Adams/Uehara let Hamilton and Napoli walk. The future would look pretty bright in Arlington. Possibly even sign one of Cabrera/LaRoche. In the scenario above, If my math is correct, we would be obtaining a young controlled all star/MVP caliber catcher, Ace pitcher, 2 years of lights out setup, a power hitting COF with something to prove and a possible Hamilton replacement bat for a mere 39.13M per year. Oh yeah we'd be losing 9.5 War but gaining 12.9

@gtown

Replace buckle with Olt and add Perez to the KC deal and you might get them both to talk. Not sure if it works but I like the way you are thinking. Just not sure if I'd go that far for Upton.

How about Cruz/Andrus/Olt to Braves for Heywood/Simmons

Simmons/Grimm/Perez to AZ for Upton/Bauer

Bauer/Ogando to KC for Perez

November 11, 2012 at 10:40 AM | Unregistered Commenterbuythenumbers

That could get it done, sounds like a pipe dream though J-Up, Heyward ( I assume you meant Heyward not Heywood) and one of Martin/Gentry/Cabrera/Swisher the best part is we fix the the righty heavy lineup. That's a lot of prospects to lose though. But Heyward/Upton/Perez are extremely young though. Now just add Stanton and we are the AL All-star team.

We were targeting Simmons so that we don't have to trade Elvis. So why would we trade Elvis to get the guy that we wanted to move instead of Elvis?

November 11, 2012 at 5:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterJared

I would say that the get was Heyward and the return on Simmons. We are trying to come up with a logical trade that lands Perez. HENCE THE TITLE SALVADOR PEREZ!!!!!!! If you don't like it go read the MY thread or go play with your hand some more.

PS All trades are fantasy until they are made.

November 11, 2012 at 7:57 PM | Unregistered Commentergtownfan

I have an idea. Let's dedicate a different thread to every untouchable player in baseball.

"Salvador Perez"
"Felix Hernandez"
"Mike Trout"
"Bryce Harper"

Saying, "We are trying to come up with a logical trade that lands Perez. HENCE THE TITLE SALVADOR PEREZ!!!!!!! If you don't like it go read the MY thread or go play with your hand some more," is quite obnoxious.

It's kind of like saying, "Oh, you have an issue with America? Why don't you go leave the country then?"

The answer to the thread is that there isn't a logical trade that could be made to get Salvador Perez. From the Rangers perspective, it wouldn't make sense to give up Martin Perez or Mike Olt or Justin Grimm or Cody Buckel. Even if S. Perez was a perennial 5+ WAR player we'd be giving up > 5 WAR/year in return. That's illogical.

As is this thread.

Oh, I think I understand now. I am not allowed to read things that I don't agree with. I am all for fantasy trades, I think up different scenarios all the time. But it just doesn't make sense to me. If you don't like it, try explaining why it does. It is a forum, people can speak their minds.

I just don't understand why we would trade Elvis for Simmons. Yeah, we would get Heyward in that particular scenario (and he is about as untouchable as they come), but the point is that we aren't trading Elvis. Especially not for the player that we were going to use to keep Elvis in Texas.

November 11, 2012 at 10:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterJared

I would trade Elvis straight up for Heyward and there is a chance Atlanta would trade Heyward they are desperate for a third baseman. For them the get in that scenario isn't Elvis it's Olt. Heyward hasn't really produced to his potential in Atlanta and he is about to get very expensive Atlanta is also in on Hamilton. If they were going to say yes this might be the right time. KC is desperate for pitching so I don't think Sal Perez is untouchable. If I'm KC and I can get arguably the best pitching prospect in baseball, a number 2 or 3 starter (allstar one year removed) and probably a future impact position player I would seriously reconsider how untouchable Perez may be. Especially since KC is still 3+ years from contention right now. KC makes that deal and is suddenly contending in that weak division this year or next. I admit Heyward is a stretch (not my idea) but Perez and Upton are very doable. I might prefer to see our resources spent on someone other than J Upton but that would be fantasy right?

November 11, 2012 at 10:32 PM | Unregistered Commentergtownfan

Heyward hasn't really produced to his potential in Atlanta

Jason Heyward produced 6.6 fWAR last year. 5.0 in his rookie year. 2.1 last year in an injury shortened season. That's 13.7 fWAR in three years for a guy who is entering his age-24 season. Dude is very legit.

November 11, 2012 at 10:43 PM | Unregistered Commentereric reining

Martin Prado will play 3rd for the Braves this year. He's adequate on defense and a pretty good hitter. He is a free agent next year and at that point they will have a decision to make for a long-term 3B. But there is no way they would trade hometown hero/potential superstar Heyward for a 3B prospect, which is all that Olt is right now until he gets a full season of ABs under his belt. That is definitely a trade I would look into next offseason if Olt is still here and has a good season.

But to trade Andrus for Heyward is completely one-sided in favor of the Rangers since ATL already has Simmons who is a year younger and much cheaper than Elvis.

November 12, 2012 at 3:49 AM | Unregistered CommenterJondar

The Royals have already turned down an offer of two MLB-ready pitchers for Perez this offseason. They aren't going to trade him without an absolutely absurd offer, and probably not even then. Elite defensive catchers who can hit, too, are 22 years old, and are signed for seven more years for $3 million per simply don't get traded. Period.
