Forum > Longoria-Style Contract for Profar

Tampa has had an incredibly good contract for Evan Longoria and now with Matt Moore, they've got a lot of team control for quality players, while providing security for their young stars. Ditto for San Fran locking up Bumgarner early.

Assuming he's full-time in Arlington, what numbers do you expect Profar to put up next year?

And what kind of 8 year deal do you think we'd give Profar based on those numbers?

As a 20 year-old, I could easily see him putting up a .265/.330/.430 line.

As for an 8-year contract, it would be dope if it was something like 8/80 (something in the Starling Castro range). That said, I would think the Rangers wait at least one year, probably 2, before looking to extend him with anything crazy.

I like the idea of locking him down when we have leverage, but in this (singluar) instance Eric is right. No need to do that now...and it could have some negative effects.

1. Undue pressure on the kid before he's done anything.
2. Sends a bad message to teammates about earning their pay

Is he even going to play? Elvis doesn't look like will get traded. Kinsler isn't going to OF with Murphy manning left. So where is Profar going to play?

My guess to start the year is SS in Round Rock. I really bet the only way Profar breaks camp with the team is if Andrus or Kinsler is traded. I just don't think it makes sense to use Profar at 2b for much time at all.
