Forum > I'm done with this site until...

This site is getting trolled to death. The fake Tex/Andy dude is actually good at one thing: spreading his own misery with the rest of the world.

Until we get decent forum software, where identities can be secure...I just don't have the energy to wade through the thread pollution.

His endless attacks on Eric, his false and schizophrenic identities, and his mindless hostility has gone beyond mild annoyance.

I know it's a crying shame....but Joey, I appeal for you to do one of two things: pay someone to install proper forum software and maybe find a volunteer to mod bbtia...or just shut this thing down.

Speaking for myself...I find little reason to come here anymore and am growing weary.

I've had great times chatting baseball this time of year. But when one cancerous soul is willing to invest 2/3 of his unemployed life ruining it for the rest of us....it's time to build a firewall.

If I could like posts, I'd have liked this one. I find myself visiting much less frequently these days, as I simply can't handle the childishness of 90% of the posts. The insightful posts are few and far between.

Jooooooeeeeeeeeeyyy, save us.

I guess you get what you pay for, huh? Why don't you take charge and do something about the forum by paying for it yourself instead of being dependent on others to do it for you.

Nobody forces you to come here and the best way to get rid of a troll is to ignore them. If everyone else wants to feed the trolls then so be it. Jeebus, man, grow up.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying.

Hopefully Joey can get a couple people on board to moderate/ update the site more when he has a chance. New content typically will stime the trolling.

Posts like these are more annoying than the trolling posts. If you're done with the site then stop posting. You don't need to make some big announcement that you're gone... life will go on!

If you post to someone who's say they're gone, were they really ever there?

You don't know till you open the box and see if the poster has eaten the poison. Until then he is simultaneously alive and dead.

Speaking from a position of having operated a similar site of my own, I know how difficult it can be to do forums "the right way". The better forum software packages out there are quite pricey, and paying someone to theme them to match the style of the parent Website isn't cheap either.

My guess is that this isn't an expense Joey feels like shelling out cash for, nor should he feel obligated to. Maybe, if it's something important enough to people, some sort of "pool" should be created to pitch in a fund the effort to get some forum software up and running. At that point, it'd be about finding moderators and the like, of which I could certainly offer up some help with.

Just a thought.

I'll chip in 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure Joey said the primary limitation is on SquareSpace. I have no idea what sort of deals they have regarding the site capabilities but it sounds like they may not make it easy to have a full-fledged forum on their site. If that's the case he might not be able to have such a forum without hosting it at another URL, or might have to switch software. Switching years and years of blog posts to new software may be a very tedious process, or maybe not even possible at all, depending on the exporting and importing software.

TL;DR: don't expect this to happen anytime soon. Not at bbtia.com, anyway.

I'd be OK contributing to a pool of funds to get some proper software installed. But let's not forget that Joey is making money on advertising....and he's getting a pool of free writers.

I feel I've definitely been a contributor to the community.

Marktown, what I did was the mature thing. It's unfortunate you can't see it that way. Unlike a lot of posters...I didn't simply leave. I identified an issue that a lot of us are feeling..and that is driving people away.

Joey in this case is the business owner. I'm the customer who told him I was unhappy. That makes me a good customer providing meaningful information.

Many of us have donated money to the site, so yes, we are entitled to giving opinions as to how the site is run from time to time.

I honestly think this is a well-run atmosphere and don't have any complaints about the forums; this is the same way they've been since I was about 12, when I began posting random bullshit at various places. Even getting the brunt of a lot of troll hate, I understand this is the way things go.

I've come on the forums a little less lately, but it's more due to it being a dead period in the baseball season. Trolls don't affect me. After all, ProfarMVP is my best troll we've got on here, and I rather like the jabs he delivers.

Even with the contributions from the lunatic fringe which I skip over like similarly useless items in the news, this is my favorite site with periodic awesome posts from Joey, MH, etc. as well as many very knowledgeable readers. I'm grateful for it, especially in the off-season.

I was very grateful for it until the past few months. Then mainly one guy posting under other people's names and a host of pseudonyms has spoiled it.

I'd chip in for good forum software, but I'll not post much until then...
