Forum > Entitled to a Championship
You sound like one of those loser nerds who never played sports. Btw--you have a fandom? It's been a year maam-get over it.

Actually, sir, I play college baseball for a NCAA Division 2 program in Oklahoma. I was simply asking for people's thoughts, not a personal attack. Thanks though.

I don't know if I felt entitled, but I genuinely believed, until that last out in Baltimore, that we had to win this year. Losing 2 years in a row, the way we did, the baseball gods had to give us this one. Maybe I did feel entitled.

OK, here goes: I am not particularly a Rangers fan, but I am a big fan of baseball and I keep up with all teams as much as I can. I like this website for its intelligent commentary and visit here fairly regularly. So...speaking as an "outsider," as it were, yes, it makes you look like a dbag Yankee fan. But you're not alone; I see a fair amount of entitlement mentality here.

It wasn't so much entitlement to me as it was simply that winning a championship in 2012 was the only way to make things right. After losing to a less talented team in 2011 and arguably 2010 you'd think the most talented team would win it this year, and for a long time the Rangers looked like that team. If we were on the other side we'd be delighted to see the Goliath team get taken down, but as Ranger fans we found ourselves rooting against parity and for the on-paper champions (Rangers) to take it down. Entitlement by the manager/players, not by the fans, is what ultimately sunk the Rangers I think.

The 2010 Giants were as talented as the Rangers, if not more so. Their pitching just dwarfed ours, and their offense got hot when they needed to. I still think the 2011 Cardinals weren't as good a team as the Rangers, but they were good enough.
I wouldn't say I felt entitlement, but like Jondar said, it was the only way we would feel better about losing in 2011. But it didn't happen. I feel less stressed about next year, though, and that's probably a good thing.

Entitled...no. Dissappointed yes. Thinking after 40 years of bad baseball that the baseball gods would finally throw us a bone but it didn't happen. Outside the Yankees, championship windows are small in that the likelihood you can keep WS caliber talent around for long is slim. The Rangers had it in 2010 but hit a more pitching rich Giants team. In 2011, the Rangers were IMHO superior but ran into that "Effing team" as Mike Rhyner puts it that just got hot at the right time. The fact is that it takes talent to get to the World Series but it also takes luck and hitting your stride at the right time. The Rangers have the talent (mostly)and you just hope they have enough luck to win before that windows closes and we have to rebuild. You hope they have a Mavs-esque year where everything just falls into place. We were hoping it would be this year and instead we got a fart-and-fall.

When the Rangers lost to the Cardinals in the 2011 WS, I as a fan, felt entitled to a World Championship. I had spent countless hours watching 140+ games a year and devoting my emotion to that group of players. I just felt that I deserved a championship for my fandom. Did anyone else feel entitled? Is it bad as a fan base to expect a championship? Or does it make us look like those dbag yankee fans?
