I'm still holding out hope for Holland for Ells, but I agree Elvis is worth wayyyyyy more than that.

Ya...a straight up trade of Elvis for Ellsbury isn't going to happen (at least I hope it doesn't). They would need to include at least one or two more prospects to make it fair. Xander Bogaerts who the Boston Herald guy mentions as their future at SS but who a lot of scouts seem to think will end up at 3B before too long might be an interesting option (though they would probably be hesitant to include him as he's probably their top prospect now). Blake Swihart could be another possibility as well and could help us at catcher this year. Ultimately I'd love to have Ellsbury but we can do better than just him if we trade Andrus.

Holland for Ellsbury isn't going to happen. Holland is cheap over the next four guaranteed years and Ellsbury is a free agent after 2013.

I don't see Boston trading Ellsbury unless the Red Sox are just blown away with the return package. The reason I say this is because Ellsbury is an interesting case. Outside of 2011, which was an absolute MVP-caliber season for Ellsbury, he's been an average CF in terms of value, but he's a very athletic, gifted and desirable CF nonetheless. Obviously, if Boston is seriously considering trading Ellsbury, they will bank on his 2011 campaign, and after considering that Ellsbury is a FA after the season, the risk slightly outweighs the reward here, and that's before adding in the factor of Ellsbury's fragility.. In a perfect world, I would prefer that the Rangers go with a CF platoon of Martín/Gentry and see where that goes, and then evaluate Ellsbury on the FA market, to see if he is indeed a fit in Texas.

Ellsbury has 1 more year before FA. His 2011 campaign is a huge outlier. Even if you assume we'll get for 1 year the MVP guy that put up 9+ fWAR, I don't think I'd trade 2 years of Elvis for that. We'd have to get a lot more from them for me to be okay with that trade - to say nothing of the Holland possibility. Holland probably won't be an ace, but he could still be a good #2, though more likely a #3. Nevertheless, I wouldn't give up much for Ellsbury. Especially because we have Martin, and it's time to see if he can play at MLB level. He has nothing left to prove at AAA. Let him play CF alongside Gentry and see where that goes.
