So do you think that he take the 1 yr deal? If so, how does that affect the Rangers?

I agree with you guys. I was just curious what others had to say.

I'd love to have B.J. Upton. None of you have any clue about him being a clubhouse cancer. Don't you think if Tampa Bay, a team built around elite pitching and overall team chemistry, had problems with Upton's personality, that they would have offered him the $13.3M qualifying offer? Take into account that's an organization with basically no money.

Say what you will about his atrocious K rate in 2012 (26.7%), but Upton has quietly been one of the more productive outfielders in baseball over the last 6 years, generating 23.4 fWAR. Only Curtis Granderson, Carlos Beltran, Josh Hamilton and Shane Victorino have produced more among center fielders.

If we can't get his brother, if we can't get some sort of offensive replacement for Josh Hamilton's hole in the order, B.J. Upton would make a nice addition.

At this point I'd rather have Torii than BJ. I expect Upton to get a 4-5 year deal.

Wherever B.J. signs, he will be a leader in the clubhouse and on the field. The amount of money he will command will make that a certainty.

If you're going to pay that much money, wouldn't you want a guy who busts his butt even when no one is looking? Or, do you want that sense of entitlement his attitude fosters to spread further throughout the Rangers' squad?

Ed, sorry to inform You of this, but the size of your paycheck does NOT make you a leader!! epecially in sports. leadrhip comes from respct ,which is earned .. respect is not something athletes give based on money, it is earned by the WORK a player does to get better and help his team compete, along with a player's personaliy.. thank you.
