Forum > Replacing Hamilton?
Think the owners are set on a $120 mil payroll so I don't see how we can afford to both re-sign Hammy and sign Greinke. It'll be either re-sign Hammy and trade for a starting pitcher, or let Hammy go and use the freed-up cash to sign Greinke then trade for an OF'er. Either way this offseason is going to see us shelling out bigtime in terms of both cash and prospects.

Quit saving prospects for a rainy day. Trade for Price. Greinke is a head case.

Yeah I don't really have much interest in Grienke. I'd rather roll with who we have and trade for an ace at the deadline. If we could have hammy on a short deal (3-7 yrs) and then lock down the bullpen with some stronger arms, I'd be happy.

Trade holland, Elvis, and another prospect to Seattle for king Felix. Then attempt to sign Bourn, or get this... Ichiro. He proved in ny when motivated he still has speed, an arm, and like Vlad did, has a penchant for hitting well in RBIA. Move nelly to dh and he stays healthy. Everyone gets what they want w profar at SS. Pretty win win. Want to have your cake and eat it to? Take a flier on Marcum.
This: Hernandez, Darvish, Harrison, Marcum, Ogando/Perez; is a pretty intimidating rotation.

Greinke or bust is only sensible deal.
Rays need Short? (1 yr offset) Cabo-san-Lucas?
ARM or Bat is where this is at
Miami, Tampa: Texican Rangers!

@Yu: the Mariners, for whatever reason, seem to not want to cash in on the king's ransom (pun intended) they could get for Felix. We might as well stop dreaming about him. And even if they were to trade him, I don't think that would be enough, even if that prospect were Profar. They ain't letting him go.

So we're all (myself included) operating under the assumption that Hamilton is gone and we need to find a big bat to replace him. However, what if JD decides and is able to sign him to a 5 year deal or so. If he is still around, what do you think our additional off season moves should be, if any?
I'm really curious about this scenario, as I don't think it is necessarily as impossible as most think it is. I think his dropped ball and "give up" spirit at the end of the season embittered fans, but he IS the best on the market... So let's play the 'what if' game assuming he is re-signed. Aaaaand go.
