Every time I think of the Rangers' broadcast crews it makes me grind my teeth in frustration. The team is now championship-caliber and yet management is content to roll out high-school-equivalent broadcasting. It's an embarrassment. I don't understand why we can't have knowledgeable, professional-sounding men and women behind the microphones, who know how to convey the beauty and complexity of the game we love and the team we follow.

NAWF didn't you just describe Eric Nadel to the letter?
Notorious
I've thought Dolgin was horrible since the first time hearing his timid voice. It's like listening to a 4 am radio infomercial on Church of Christ Scientist or something.

I always assume when Ranger fans say things like this, that it is excluding Nadel and are referring to TV broadcasters --and I have to agree. As far as TV goes, I'd love a completely new crew (sorry, TAG) and, God forbid if on top of that, we could be so lucky as to get someone who would use/mention advanced stats... *gasp*
I am not a huge fan of Dolgin but I shudder to think who might take his place.

Nadel is a class act and I dont think there is any question about it. One of the best in the business. TAG just seems to be worn out. Seems more interested in giving shout outs than the game. Buzz I think would make a better color guy than a play-by-play guy. My suggestion would be to let TAG go because he doesnt seem interested anymore and move buzz to the color spot (which is more his forte IMO) and get a real play-by-play guy.

How about Mark McLemore in the booth? I think he could do a good job. I wouldn't have minded a McLemore+Lewin booth. To bad it never happened.

I've said it in another thread, but I'll say it again. When DirecTV rolled out the free Extra Innings Package for 2 weeks in July, some of the other broadcast duos put Busby/Grieve to shame. Not that I particularly liked Busby/Grieve to begin with, but it became even more obvious. Busby's ok I guess and I do agree that he's better as a color guy than a PBP guy, I just hate the fake 1970s radio DJ voice. Grieve.offers.nothing in the way of insight. Nothing.
Brian Anderson (former DBacks pitcher) of the Rays broadcast was the color guy that I was particularly impressed with. Went over pitch sequences, why they worked and why they didn't. Very youthful and energetic. Grieve just judges pitches by a little circle in a box after the fact.
And yeah, Nadel is still great, despite his disdain for advanced statistics.

I'm not going to comment about Nadel, obviously I'm a minority of one so I'll keep that opinion to myself.
As for the rest, The Potamus nailed my thoughts on Buzz, and his/her comment on Brian Anderson's color commentary is on the mark, as well - that's exactly the kind of announcer we want and deserve.
I began to get used to Matt Hicks toward the end, it'll be interesting to see if his "PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCER" style wears well for a full season.
TAG is either tired of the job, or he's pandering to the 80-year-old members of his audience. Actually, I apologize for that comment, it's an insult to 80-year-olds.
Finally, going back to Michelle's original question, anyone heard new info on Dolgin's decision?
NAWF
I'll play devils advocate. I don't mind Buzz and TAG. Buzz is logarithmically better than Rhads and Dave. TAG was much better playing off Buzz. I think that Buzz and TAG are easier to listen to that Dave and Rhads fumbling and bumbling.
Would I prefer Nadel/ Lewin/ Hicks? Yes, but I don't mind Buzz & TAG.

"I'm not going to comment about Nadel, obviously I'm a minority of one so I'll keep that opinion to myself. "
If it means anything, I'm interested in hearing it. My glasses could be clouded because I grew up listening to him when HSE was a premium channel (Rangers home games) and we could only watch TV games when they played on the road.
Then again, I grew up with Busby too and I don't care for him much.

So Bryan Dolgin tweeted a few days ago that he won't be returning. Was his contract simply up or do we know if he was released?
Any thoughts/leads on who will be replacing him? I assume Matt Hicks will stay on with Eric if Buzz stays on TV. I was not a huge fan of Hicks at first but came to prefer that over Dolgin/Nadel.
