What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Bumgarner looks a lot like the Dutch. Tonights performance was very similar to Holland's in last years series. I think he's a little above Holland. Don't they seem similar in terms of stuff & inconsistency?
Bumgarner >>>>>> Holland and it's not really close.
They are somewhat similar. But Bumgarner has had a lot more success in the MLB at an even younger age. I think Holland has the better stuff, though.
Mechanics & stuff look identical. Is it just maturity?
The eerie thing to me was when Detroit put Smyly in the game and he couldn't throw strikes. I had flashbacks of Dutch in the 2010 WS. Same damned park and everything.
Mechanics and stuff are nowhere near identical. Holland sits 93-95 and touches 96; Bumgarner is more deceptive, and sits 88-91. Not very comparable if you ask me.
^^^^^^^ this 100 times
Dutch's pure stuff tops Bumgarners. Dutch's stuff is up there with some of the best in the league, he is not passed them or even tied but he is not to far behind. This is why you keep believing that it clicks because if it does......... We will see what he did in the second half last year over and over and over.
You don't lead the league in shutouts unless you have the natural ability which he has.
If Holland pitched in that park, you wouldn't believe the hype he'd be getting at this stage in his career. We tend to discount just how difficult it is -- especially psychologically, and especially as a young. developing pitcher -- to pitch at RBIA.
Holland's ERA at home is more than a run higher over his career. As a lefty he shouldn't have quite as much trouble at home as he has. This year Holland had an identical opponent average vs LH and RH batters(.243) and over his career he's only 27 points better vs LH. I suspect if he ever learns how to dominate LH batters his home ERA will drop much closer to his road ERA. Don't get me wrong , our park makes a difference whether its a RHP or a lefty, but lefty batters REALLY lick their chops here.
I don't find them even remotely alike. Mechanics aren't at all similar. I hate watching Bumgarner; he slings the ball sidearm like it's a frisbee. Watch where his arm goes behind his back and you'll see what I mean. Holland does nothing like that. And, as Eric said, stuff isn't comparable either. The only thing they have in common is they both throw left-handed.
Does Bumgarner go on local radio stations trying to be a comedian after a bad outing?
S has it. Seriously. Those on air who laugh and encourage it on might be gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
If I was a radio personality, I would tell Holland, "No, I don't care about your impressions. How about doing an impression of a top notch starter. Got that one in your bag of tricks"?
