What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
by Joe Girardi.
He pinch hit for AROD in the 9th inning, and Ibanez hit a game tying homer. Then hit the winner in the 12th.
I dont think Wash has this move in his bag of tricks.....I think we get Michael Young grounding out in the 9th and then again in the 12th while Profar watches.
LOL. You're absolutely right.
Pretty sure it was the Orioles who got served from that move.
I see your point, but it's really a bad comparison. Ibanez is not a 19-year-old rookie that has been in the majors for a month, he's a 16-year veteran. Huge difference.
yea big deal, ibanez is an old man.....what happened was Girardi managed the team instead of coddling them
some coaches are managers and some are coddlers.......we dont need a coddler anymore (we did 2 years ago)
If the Rangers don't make the playoffs in 2013, Wash will be fired. That's about as simple as things get. Are we going to cite every mistake he makes until that point?
I actually have a strong feeling Michael Young will not be on the roster in 2013. He will either be cut, or, more likely, traded. I just don't think JD will stand for putting out a player that's clearly a detriment to the team. If it means the Rangers have to eat between $13M and $16M, so be it. Without Hamilton and Napoli and two key bullpen pieces, wins are going to be more of a premium next season, and we just can't afford to have below replacement level players taking at bats away from guys that could actually help the team.
I think you're right eric, and I think it's a bit unfortunate.
Young had, by his standards, a terrible year. He's always hit for good average, even if not for much power. He's never been known for his defensive prowess, but he's a somewhat-acceptable replacement at all 4 IF positions. No, I wouldn't want him out there every day, but most teams don't have a guy that can play all 4 of those and (sometimes) hit alright. In short, he seems like a good 5th infielder right now.
The problem with this, of course, is that I don't see him going for that. Being a former all-star, how would it look to be sitting on the bench 4 days a week? I wouldn't be surprised if he wouldn't accept that role, and even if he did, I'm not sure Wash would relegate him thereto unless, possibly, his job were on the line. Ergo, unless those 2 things happen, it seems like it's best to part ways with him.
The question is, which of those does J.D. opt for? And can he make it happen without pissing off too many people? I think he can.
Don't forget MY has to approve any trade.
But MY does not have to approve getting cut.
If the Rangers aren't able to sign Hamilton and Napoli, Michael Young won't be going anywhere. There's no way you let all three of them go. Say what you will about his poor season, but losing Hamilton, Napoli and Young all in one off-season would be a horrible PR move on the Rangers part.
I wonder what Eric's PAR[posts above replacement] is?
Obviously a stupid decision by Girardi. Clearly went with his gut. Arod has better WAR and wRC+. Fire Girardi!
The problem with MY as a utility player is his atrocious defense. He is on the steep part of the age/decline curve and should be replaceable at little expense. A trade would be nice, but between his 5/10 rights and negative WAR, I doubt if there will be a trade, and if there is, the Rangers will eat nearly the entirety of MY's salary.
I would rather have a light hitting fielding specialist who can also pinch run than a no fielding, slow, GIDP MY who may take another 4 months to work out of a "slump." MY's time has come and is now gone. Make him a coach, mascot, receptionist, I don't care so long as he is off the roster.
Eric writes, "If the Rangers don't make the playoffs in 2013, Wash will be fired. That's about as simple as things get. Are we going to cite every mistake he makes until that point?

This has been my contention. And if he fails to do so it will likely hurt the team even more than this year...more than the ugly -1.6 WAR.
The 16 mil is sunk already. TR12 is sunk...largely because of Young. Why sink another season?
As per public relations? You take care of that on the field.
By not making back to the WS the Rangers lost between 15-20M in revenue. RW rode with MY until it crashed and I don't see RW doing anything different next year. MY will be an everyday player in 2013 if he is on the roster. MY costs this team multitudes of runs with GIDP and errors and lack of hitting. This team was talented enough to overcome it in 2012 to a point. They probably won't have as talented of a roster in 13 so they won't be able to carry MY.
MY bitched when asked to move to 3B to make room for Elvis. He complained at the signing of Beltre and having to play 1B. Freaked and demanded a trade at the signing of Napoli as the team's DH. Will MY accept being benched in 2013? No way. Can you say 1-800-temper tantrum. Will RW bench him? No way.
MY OPTIONS:-Trade him. He has 10/5 rights. He won't agree to it. His buddy RW has his back.-Release him-JD will have to convince ownership to eat 16M. That's serious cash.-Watch him be an everyday player next year. Profar and Olt spend another year in the minors.
