Forum > Elvis's Next Contract

I read on the web that Boras might want $140 mil for Elvis. What do you think he is worth and how much would you pay him? Me personally, I wouldn't pay $140 to lock up Elvis.

the most i'll give him is 7year or 6year for 110$ he is a everyday short stop , he can hit the ball,he's an all star. But his agent is boras so that's me.

I fully expect Elvis to continue to be a 4.0-5.0 WAR a year player if not more. I think he is worth 15MM AAV if not more for the life of any contract he signs. And I will not be shocked when he signs a deal worth that much for 8-10 years.

Elvis is going to hit free agency at age-26, so he'll get paid for all his prime years + 1-2, I'd say. That covers all of his age-26 through age-33, + or - his age-34, 35 and 36 years. So, at minimum, that's 8 years. At maximum, it's 10-11.

From a WAR perspective, and through projecting his talent going forward, he should be paid as one of the 3 best at his position in baseball. That's roughly $17-$20M AAV. To that end, at the minimum, he should be looking at about $150M over 8 years; at max, closer to $200M over 10 years.

I think he goes somewhere in the range of 17-19M a yr avg so 140 over 7-8 yrs I'd jump on that. Can we do it now?!?

Elvis is a big, well put together young man. He also appears to be learning his position better each year. I looked at him compared to the top WAR guys this year :

While he doesn't stand out, and has a smaller history, I think he projects like Jeter. That's a lot of money :P

TRADE HIM!!!!

Elvis and Max Scherzer are both Boras clients and both free agents in two years. Jhonny Peralta sucks and they may decline his 2013 option. I would love to have Scherzer but Detroit has to sweeten that deal somehow for the Rangers to bite.

Love Scherzer and the way he strikes people out, but I don't know how much I'd want him based on his mechanics. He looks like a major arm surgery waiting to happen.

Link please? I'd bet $140 is actually pretty conservative. If I'm Elvis, I'm looking for an 8 year deal at about $22M AAV.

$175M for a great contact hitter (who would be better if he weren't asked to bunt in stupid situations and hit with 2 strikes all the time) that plays a premium position at an elite level? Sign me up. Elvis just turned 24 and started showing flashes of power this year. He can easily hit 15HR and steal 30 in the first year of his new contract. He'll be worth it.

It just doesn't make sense for the Ranger's to lock him up with Profar in the wings and the emphasis on up-the-middle talent we've had in scouting for the past 3-5 years.

I think $140 million sounds about right. Jose Reyes got 6 years $106 from Miami, and Jeter got 10 years $189 back in his prime. I think Elvis definitely gets somewhere in between those 2 players.

I have to question the idea that an uncited web source ha Bora on the record with a seemingly low demands for a player who won't hit Free Agency for another 2 full years. It's probably nonsense speculation. If it was real, I would assume that meant that's what he would want to lock Elvis up NOW, tearing up the 2 years and $13m left on his contract, which makes it a much more expensive number than it seems.

Theres no way Elvis ever hits 15 HR

I would rather trade Ian and his contract (he does have decent value) and extend Elvis 8 years at 150-160. Trading Kinsler would offset most of the Elvis contract. The pure baseball joy of getting to watch Elvis and Profar up the middle for a decade would be a privilege. Sign Ortiz to be the DH and we would have one of the most relaxed and loose clubhouses in baseball. It seemed like a black cloud lingered around this team for much of the season. Getting to watch Beltre, Elvis, Profar and Ortiz together would be so much fun.

I'd offer Elvis a contract to the tune of 7/120 with incentives. That's about 16M AAV or 3ish WAR which I think is very doable by him.

I could also see offering anywhere from 20m less to 20m more depending on intangibles.

Going to be tough to keep him since we're bound to give MY a big extension after next year. Will be a seamless transition for MY to go back to SS and ride out into the sunset there while also chasing 3000 hits and 500 HRs.

I haven't read a statement from Boras, or even conjecture attributed to him, but $140m is the same $ amount AJM suggested a few days ago. Might be referring to that.
