Forum > JD says he's "very pleased" with Wash's job managing this season

"At the end of the day we didn't get it done as an organization. Wash preaches accountability, so he's taking accountability, but it's not on him anymore than it is on any other person. It's on a lot of us. We had a very good year. We had a bad finish. We didn't get the job done. But overall, I'm very pleased with the job Wash did and will continue to do as our manager."

~Jon Daniels

I agree that there are plenty of places to spread the blame, but this surprised me a bit. If I were JD, I'd be furious. He's risking his own reputation. How can he look back on this season and honestly say that Washington did a great job?

Thoughts? Any explanations for this?

Well, he pretty much explained it. It was a good year, and there was a bad finish. Wash preaches accountability, and today he put the full blame on himself for the collapse.

Fans are going to be disappointed that no change will be made.

Where did Wash say, "I take full responsibility for this team's collapse"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he only admitted to not resting certain regulars down the stretch, and that was just one of his mistakes.

Oh, and I don't believe Wash should be fired, but he should be on a short leash next season.

Wash put the full blame on himself?? Eric, you clearly did not listen to or read transcripts of the press conference. He did nothing of the kind. Not even close.

I listened to the interview with Nolan Ryan today and the Dallas guys intimated that Wash owned responsibility, so that's what I was going off of. My bad.

Still, I'm not in the fire Wash camp, which I suppose has grown into the minority on this board.

From where we sit it may look like Wash is a horrible manager. To be honest if he were to be fired I wouldn't be upset, but we aren't in the clubhouse though. We aren't back there seeing how to team runs and how Wash is putting together his lineups. Maybe he really has helped the team. It's just easy to look back on a season that ended poorly and put the blame all on Wash.

I'm not working on much sleep right now...so bear with me if that just sounded crazy.

Not really. Statheads are, fans aren't.

This was a good season. It does not feel like it but it was.

I wish Wash sat MY more but I do not know what sitting Young does to his standing in the club house. As bad a MY was this year, he was hardly the only player not to reach his potential. The core of the team is good.

Wash has a few new toys to play with in Profar and Olt and Profar has the ability to replace production lost in the post season but maybe not the development.

We have Darvish looking like the ace we have been dreaming about. He did not seem to have his fastballs in the playoff game but still battle through for a good showing. That is damn near the definition of an ace in my book and eliminates my concerns about him in big games. It is AL ball, the pitcher can not win his own game but Darvish kept the team in it.

Harry took steps forward. I hope his winter reading keeps getting him better.

Holland is seems like he is less variable though not less frustrating in his performance.

Perez has finally made it and despite his struggles has me happy to see him work through his learning curve.

Murphy and Andrus looks like they have taken the next step in their career arcs.

Beltre is defying the aging process better than any of us could have hoped.

MY is entering into his walk year so if there is anything left in the tank, we should see it next year.

The roster looks to get younger and more athletic next year and all that talent in A ball gets one year closer to the show.

At virtually any point from 2000-2010, we would consider it a fantastic season to make the post season in any slot. We got our expectations out of line the last two years. That is a result of how good this team was over the last 3 years and not how bad this team theoretically was.

This is the best of times to be a Rangers fan, stat head or not. Wash brought this team to near greatness when many of its players were rookies. I give him a vote of confidence to continue with the next generation while yelling at him for bunting Elvis so often.
