It has to be Trout. I don't want it to be, and I severely dislike that smug little bastard, but it has to be Trout.
Trout
Verlander
Trout
Melvin
Rodney
Braun
Gonzalez (like Dickey also, and bucking convention Kimbrel)
Harper
Johnson
Kimbrel

AL MVP- Mike Trout
AL Cy Young- Justin Verlander
AL ROY- Mike Trout
AL Manager- Bob Melvin
AL Rolaids Relief- Fernando Rodney
NL MVP- Buster Posey
NL Cy Young- Clayton Kershaw
NL ROY- I want to give it to Grandal, but won't because I don't think he played enough games. So Bryce Harper.
NL Manager- Davey Johnson
NL Rolaids Relief- Craig Kimbrel
And I actually want to give Bud Black some love for NL manager of the year. His team was absolute SHIT for the first half of the season, but that team (who has one of the least talented rosters in the MLB) rallied and actually got into the wildcard hunt late into the season. They were 34-53 in the first half, 42-33 in the 2nd half.

Yaeh--let's give the MVP to a player whose team DID NOT make the playoffs versus a player who won the TRIPLE CROWN & MADE the PLAYOFFS. Brilliant Keystone. Eric etc. LMFAO
JAY
Trout vs Cabrera will be a very interesting pick. It's like new school vs old school. I pick Cabrera just because I figure the Angels would still be in 3rd place without Trout and the Tigers would be in 3rd place without Cabrera. Also the triple crown is pretty cool. But I would rather have had Trout on my team this year. It'll be interesting who wins/
LightningOlt
The TC is an impressive feat as it shows how well rounded a player is in a season. But what Trout did this year was not just limited in scope to this season; rather, he would have been impressive in any season. P
Playing only 75% of the season he nearly was a 30-50 guy and was top three in average, runs, stolen bases, slugging, and on base percentage. He wasn't near the tops in RBIs because he was a lead off man.
The Angels won games at a .584 clip after Trout started playing. That would have been good for #2 overall had they played that way the entire season. It's one thing to say "his team didn't make the playoffs" which isn't particularly fair, but whatever. However, the fact you're blaming him for what the Angels did before he started playing is ludicrous.

MVP: Trout/Braun
ROY: Trout/Harper
CYA: Price/Dickey
MOY: Showalter/Johnson (Buck wins because of the crazy 1-run game stats)
Relief: Rodney/Kimbrel (Rodney gave up 5 ER in 74.2 IP posting an 0.60 ERA. Jim Johnson is good but... no contest.)
The Triple Crown is awesome but don't forget the Tigers don't even make the playoffs in the AL West. The Angels won more games and didn't make it. Plus Trout's prowess as a fielder/baserunner more than makes up for the slight discrepancy in batting average between he and Cabrera, IMO. I think Cabrera will win, but if you're building a team for the next year or five years or more I'm taking Trout.

Yeah, let's all put on our dinosaur hats and anoint batting average and RBI as two vitally important stats. Good thinking there. Oh yeah, and since Cabrera's team made the playoffs by virtue of playing in the weakest division in baseball, let's give the award to him, even though, you know, the Angels had more wins and played in the toughest division in baseball. Makes sense to me.

Showalter inspired a roster to not back down to the AL East. Melvin did a great job, but it was more a case of following a platoon formula created at a higher level in the organization. Both organizations must be recognized. Orioles get Manager of the Year, A's get Executive of the Year.
harrahisbest
Yeah Eric, we all know how umimportant RBI are. LOL Your friends are right though Trout did steal more bases which ARE SO IMPORTANT. Its not the 'MOST WELL ROUNDED AWARD or the PLAYER YOU WOULD LIKE TO BUILD ARoUND AWARD as others have suggested. Maybe they just name it the ERIC REINING MOST UNINFORMED NERD AWARD. It is not even the BEST PLAYER AWARD which Trout probably is. It is -now listen up--the most VALUABLE PLAYER award.
JAY
Hold on, I need to go fetch my dinosaur hat again so I can understand what you're saying. ALL CAPS AND EVERYTHING OMG IT'S SUCH A GOOD WAY TO GET MY POINTS ACROSS.
Trout: wRC+ of 175, wOBA of .422
Cabrera: wRC+ of 166, wOBA of .416
Trout: UZR of 11.4; RngR of 15.6
Cabrera: UZR of -10.0; RngR of -15.8
Trout: 49 SB's
Cabrera: 4 SB's
That's, uhm, hitting, fielding, and base running. And, oh, look, Mike Trout objectively had a better offensive season, a significantly better defensive year, and the speed/base running, well, do you really wanna go there?
But surely you already knew this.
eric reining
I doubt the Tigers makethe playoffs without cabrera. However I'm sure th Angels could have finished 3rd WITHOUT Trout. But sure you already knew this. But wait I'm gonna go fetch my NERD cap so I can understand what ur saying. But hey if you think a Triple Crown winner deserves to be nosed out by someone whose team DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS--well that says how little you know.
Jay
Your playoff argument gets tossed out by the mere fact that the Angels had a better record than the Tigers this year (playing in a better division with no Minnesota, no Cleveland and no KC, mind you). And no, I don't think Cabrera deserves to be nosed out. If the MVP was voted on by knowledgeable baseball people, it would be a total landslide in Trout's favor.
I just found my dinosaur hat, and I have to tell you, all of a sudden batting average and RBI mean A TON to me. Very important.
eric reining
POOOR ERIC! Stuck in a nerd's world. Continue your lickfest with Trout.
Jay
I'm going to give runners up if I feel like it. They can, so why can't I?
AL MVP - Trout, Cabrera, Beltre, Cano
AL Cy Young - Price, Verlander, Hernandez, Weaver, Sale
AL ROY - Trout, Cespedes, Darvish, Parker
AL Manager - Melvin
AL Rolaids Relief - Rodney
NL MVP - Posey, Braun, McCutchen, Wright
NL Cy Young - Dickey, Cueto, Gonzalez, Kershaw
NL ROY - Harper, Miley, Frazier, Aoki
NL Manager - Johnson
NL Rolaids Relief - Kimbrel
Andy
@Jay
I'm not resorting to the name-calling like you. Can you please give me a rational argument that isn't subjectively-based, or including of the word "nerd," in regards to why Miguel Cabrera has been a better player than Mike Trout this year?
eric reining
Never said he was a 'better' player--just more VALUABLE. Get it--MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD? It is NOT the 'BETYTER PLAYER AWARD. NEXT
Jay
Jay, you aren't making sense.
Andy
I'd like to hear more from Jay. His use of caps is really resonating with me. That said, I think Cabrera probably does win because of the triple crown. Doesn't mean he deserves it though. Should probably be Trout.
Nate
"It is not even the BEST PLAYER AWARD which Trout probably is. It is -now listen up--the most VALUABLE PLAYER award."
Two words: Andre Dawson.
One more word: ARod.
Dan
One argument for Cabrera would be (playing devils advocate here)...
His willingness to switch positions...thus allowing the Tigers to go get Fielder...and saving them the hassle (and money) of having to find a 3B...all while doing something that hasn't been done in over 40 years...something that Arod, Puljos, Trout, etc have never done.
Now that's value.
JV
I'm pretty certain we have troll here, so reason has gone out the window. Just stop feeding, Eric. He's not willing to listen to another POV.
