Anyone who thinks Wash is out the door is a moron.

He has 3 playoff appearances and two WS appearances. As far as I'm concerned, this job is his as long as he wants it or until we no longer have a winning record.

Which manager sounds better to you?

Three post season appearances, one division title, one AL title, two ALDS losses.

OR

Three post season appearances, two division titles, two AL titles.

Joe Maddon is the first manager.

The real eric reining FTW.

Go Rangers.

I'm not saying Wash should be fired right now. But your argument would hold water if Maddon and Wash were managing the exact same amount of talent.

My hope is that JD and Nolan will evaluate everyone's worth to the team and make decisions if any based on that. I hope they do that year to year, and my guess is that they do. Just like the players have to get better, so must Wash. This is the first year they failed to do better in the regular season under Wash. Maybe some complacency is to blame for that. I could honestly go either way on Washington, and that has to do with his in game strategy. No person not named Beltre should have total job security IMO.

As long as Wash has the player's respect, and they completely follow his lead and play for the TEAM......he stays as a valuable ingredient / asset to this franchise.

So, Nompton...a manager should be judged purely by the nominal performance of the team? No adjustment for talent? If the manager does really stupid things that the team overcomes, we still think he's great?

Ok, then.

Why would you fire him? Am I missing something?

October 5, 2012 at 8:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterB F

He should be fired because he will put FACE in the field... Where as I write this, we should be ahead by one, but are insted tied because FACE was allowed out onto the field wearing a glove.

He'll do it next year too, and it will cost us games.

For the Rangers to win Wash has to go. All of the other teams in the playoffs are better than the Rangers because they don't have Ron Washington. That is why the O's have already won this game.
They won't fire him but they also won't make the playoffs next year. The Rangers will ever make the playoffs again while Ron Washington is the manager.

Everyone keeps saying "Wash gets his players to play for him". Is THIS what that looks like?

October 5, 2012 at 10:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterElliott

Wash made this contempt for FACE possible. He is responsible for leaving this sour taste in our mouth. I'm done with FACE, Hambone, and Kins!

Next year will be rough. No Hamilton, No Young...Profar, OIt and Perez in their first full year....this team will go 81-81 next year. Its gonna be a battle. We had our chance and missed it. Onward and upward.

Guess it ended up not mattering. But bringing in Holland instead of Koji was classic Wash.

@ A. Ruggs a full season of the real Yu Darvish, a very good Matt Harrison and hopefully a more consistent Derek Holland. I think we'll be in the race not 81-81

@nompton - how long a losing record is necessary for you to turn on Wash? Total career wins and losses? A whole season? How about in the most important month of the season? This team won't have the same talent and same strong farm system forever - how many of those years are you willing to waste on a manager that gave the second worst player in the league 150 games, that consistently makes horrible in game decisions and that clearly lost the ability to get his team to play hard for him?

What does he bring to the table now? What does he do to get the most out of this team now? Not 2010, not 2011. Now. Or do you base this all on loyalty? Loyalty to Wash and his loyalty to older players at the expense of developing younger players? Noble trait, except when it comes to pro sports. What sports dynasties were built on loyalty? Yankees? No. 1970s and early 1990s Cowboys? No. Lakers/Spurs? No. All of those teams had substantial turnover and were not afraid to churn the roster when players' skills started diminishing.

I just don't get the continued support of this guy. What does he bring bring NOW?

Sports are a "what have you done for me lately" business.

Wash had this self entitled demeanor for the whole season and it completely rubbed off on the clubhouse. Funny as I write this his news conference comes on and he says "He never thought something like this would EVER happen...bc he's a winner". Newsflash: YOU HAVEN'T WON ANYTHING. He played MY when he obviously needed a break, he sat players instead of going for the jugular, he wouldn't let any of our young studs get any PT, his horrible in-game management was on full display for the world to see AGAIN today... and we had one of the worst end season collapses of ALL TIME.

Tell me why Mike Maddox or Terry Francona wouldn't do a better job. I dare you.

Everything you said there Nompton was nullified by Wash not making the adjustments this season when the team was running out of gas. He did NOTHING to mix things up. He just kept throwing the same line up out day after day, he kept rolling the black hole of Face out there day after day. And yes, 93 wins...cool, I love they won that many, but it should have been more. Wash was not reactionary nor was he precautionary. He kept doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result...

October 5, 2012 at 11:41 PM | Unregistered CommenterRangersApologist

They'll probably just be more involved in Wash's decision making process now. Win-win.
