I'm neither defending or justifying the man, but here's an interesting read.

God I wish we could have held the lead in the 10th inning of game6 :(

He's not worth 30 million a year. But he might be worth 30 million a year to the Rangers. Unless we can guarantee Upton, are you ready to part with a 43 hr, 128 rbi hitter that has been cold for about 3 months in total this year? People would kill for those numbers while they were HOT all year.

Think about it for a minute. Stats don't lie.

It would be great to keep his production, but I have no interest in keeping his drama.

Great article. Thanks for the link. I think he thinks he has bigger things to do than play ball and the Rangers guard their pocketbook. I will miss him next year.

If they pay based on his ~3.5 WAR from this year, I think I'd be okay with a ~3 year deal. After all, he's a HUGE piece of why they are 2-time AL champs. That said, he's GOT to make some adjustments to be the best overall ballplayer he can be and not just try to kill it every time like a caveman with a club.

I have a feeling I'm about to get sued by a GEICO mascot for that analogy.

4/60 offer, push to 4/70 maybe. No way I'd go 6/120 or whatever is out there. That's worse than the Puljos deal.

He's already a -WAR player on defense and I could see a HUGE decline for him next year. We've already seen stretches where he looks AWFUL. What if just stays like that and doesn't have the huge bounce back? What if the bounce back is only very good and not superhuman?

Players that rely only on talent and lack fundamental discipline typically have steep, sudden declines. His defense is already there, his offense could flip the switch at any time...and we've already seen what that looks like. Throw him a non-fastball low and outside and he's done in 3 pitches.

Oh and two more things:

How I wish we held that lead in game 6. Ugh.

That ESPN was a good read. It captured both sides of the player. Seems like so much that I read these days is opinion piece that either diefies or demonizes the player. This one was reasonably balanced.
