Forum > ron washington's stupid decisions have come back to bite them
I will admit that some of Washington's line up decisions have been baffling this season....but the team played lethargic for the last couple of weeks against bad teams. We had multiple opportunities to win games and we refused to do the little things to win them....a sign of an arrogant or unfocused-tired team.

Where are all the morons now to tell us there's nothing to worry about??? Anyone who dared raise any concerns about the team's mediocre play and terrible managerial/lineup decisions is labeled a knee-jerker and now it's all come down to one game. What say you now???????

I believe this is the sinking ship Ron Ron spoke of earlier

Looks to me like the team has quit on Wash. Small wonder with the way he runs out a shity lineup game after game and blindly plays favorates almost every game like MY even when they suck for months. Club house chemistry and players who will run through walls for him are supposed to be the strengths of Wash. Yeah right, just words the way it looks.

All of those Sabermetrics, WAR, fWAR, BABIP, spouting elitists can't allow their eyes to tell them what they are actually seeing.....the often spouted "Recency Bias" for anyone criticizing play or managing sure seems near sighted now.
RangerRed
Many of the non rotation pitchers do not know their role. He has jacked Feldman, Kirkman, Oswalt, and others around. Perez was thrown into the fire. Would be a good thing if Washington was just let go. They say he took them to 2 WS but I say he was just not able to screw it up.

RW's managerial decisions have gotten better over the years. but it is still a given that we will be out-managed in any game with a contender. He still plays favorites, and it's not necessarily bias against young players. Remember Brandon Boggs? He was always in the lineup and Catalanotto was always out.
This is a players' manager: Let the "regulars" do what they do and give them guidance respectful of their status. Don't berate or bench them for lack of plate discipline, inattention on the bases, etc., as that would not give them the appropriate deference. When the wheels start to come off, the players' manager doesn't have a clue what to do, because he isn't in control anyway.
Old Tom
Fire Ron Washington! The decisions he has made this year have been idiotic! If not for him, we would have one World Series Championship under our belts! Should never have come to this. Get Michael Young off this team in the off season. I am tired of looking at him!
Gump
I really want someone to come tell us all our criticism of Wash during the season was unjustified now. Like I said last night, he fucking coasted through the entire season. He didn't even care about changing things in order to improve. Just kept the status quo whenever people weren't producing, and now look at us.
Keystone Heavy
WOW! How soon the peons forget!

Old Tom got it right this team is starting to remind me of the Cowboys under Wade Phillips. Not that Garrett is much better so far but at least they got rid of underperforming "vets" like Leonard Davis, Terence Newman, Bradie James etc. The Rangers still have a bright future (hell, this season is still not lost) but big changes need to be made.

What do you expect from a lying coke head? The guy is a joke. Ready to say bye to the egomaniac, excuse ridden, swing at everything center fielder. Ready to say good bye to the worst everyday player in the league.
God
Where did the offense go? Pitching is not that bad, the offense is not doing the job. Maybe we need Rudy back, he was let go by the Cubs.
Felix
Ron should have been fired in March 2010 when we found out he was a coke head. Why the fuck did we keep him? We weren't a winning team back then. He was a nobody anyways. There was a reason he never moved any higher than 3B coach all those years. No one would touch him for a manager position. And I see why. He has no clue how to manage. He was lucky as hell JD and Nolan run this team and got him the players he had. But that is about to change. Because quite a few of those guys will be gone. And the ones who aren't, are declining. Like Cruz. He is god awful right now. Good chance Nap and Hamilton are gone, too. We got to the WS 2 times in a row despite him, not because of him.
And his whole not changing this lineup one bit at all is disgusting. He was the main one screaming "Doesn't matter, first place...look!! first place! All you doubters shut up" And let us know if the sink ships, MY will be there to sink with it. MY could go 0-300 and still bat 6th. Hell maybe even 2nd like all those games. When A-Rod sucked, Yankees moved him down. He sucked some more, moved to 9th at one point. Same goes for any team.
But nope. Not us. We let Ian stay leadoff when he is the biggest opposite of a leadoff hitter there is. Left Hamilton at 3rd no matter what. MY in the lineup every single fucking day no matter what. Sickening.
Hopefully Ron loses his job and can use that goofy company he speaks for to get him a payday loan when the checks stop coming in.

For all of us who have been critical of Young and Wash's use of him this is exactly what we were afraid would happen. However, most of us thought it would be the Angels not the As passing us though. I posted an article on here five weeks ago by Dietz showing numbers that no team in baseball history has won a World Series and most don't even come close to making it to the show with a regular player with a -1 WAR stat. Other players positives can't overcome one player, of that negativity, negatives.
Many of us that are into sabermetrics saw this and cried out that this won't work. The argument against us has been Wash has skins on the wall, the Rangers are in first place etc. Yes, Wash does have skins on the wall by going to back to back World Series but the Rangers didn't win either one and once this corp of players leaves who knows if we will be back for sometime to come.
Thus, those of us that have been critical seem to understand that this is the end of a very special "era". Meaning that the heart of this roster will not look the same next year. Maybe that will be better, who knows. But the World Series era with this crop of players is ending with the Mayans. Knowing that this is a talented group who could win it all it has been befuddling that the concept of lineup adaptations has been met with such consternation.
Well, now it's down to game 162. Young will be in the lineup and Kinsler will be leading off. I hope Young will do something "grand" and Wash can tell us "I told you so!" but it sure seems like the holes on the boat are getting bigger.

Are you guys serious? Why is there so much hate? I understand if you don't like the way he manages, from a tactical standpoint, but does he really deserve all the name-calling?
How soon you forget this team made it to back-to-back World Series'. How soon you forget we've been in first place nearly every day of the entire season, 175 consecutive days. You wanna see players that quit on their manager? Go look at Boston. This isn't the place.
Regardless of what any of you are saying, this team IS trying to win. They've just hit a slump. It's plain and simple. A very untimely slump, yes, but a slump nonetheless.
No, I don't agree with Michael Young being in the lineup every day. I think Craig Gentry should have played a lot more this year. But Wash has trudged out the same tired lineup that all of you hate, and he did it all season without making any bones about it, and the club is in position to still win the West.

It was one thing when one player was under-performing and he kept rolling him out there on a daily basis(Young), but now it's more than just that. Kinsler, Young, Soto these three guys couldn't hit water falling out of a boat at this moment. It frustrated me that Young played every day, but I always hoped he would turn it around, and everything would still be dandy. Now though that we have three guys in the lineup that are in quite a slump still going out there every day and not even been given a day off to recoup is ridiculous. Wash keeps throwing out the same lineup and expecting different results, that sounds a lot like insanity to me. He could have played Profar a game here and there to give Kins a break(Which is why i believe he has struggled so much down the stretch) Or maybe once in a while he could play Moreland, I've heard he isn't half bad either. I've had quite a tolerance with Wash seeing as how we've had success these past two years, but this has become ridiculous. Fire Wash, make Mike the Manager, and call up Greg to be the pitching coach it's a Win/Win.
Fajita
@eric, I agree with you. The name-calling is ridiculous. Sounds like a bunch of Yankee or Red Sox fans.
AlanElmore
This is major league baseball. There is no guarantee of anything. To sit here and lambast the team, coach, and players for winning 93 or 94 games in a season is truly ridiculous. I will agree, these last two weeks have been infuriating. But, the world is not ending, the Rangers are still going to the playoffs, and still have a chance.
I'm not sure how much baseball many of you have watched, but just because you have the best roster in baseball (or best coach for that matter - which Rangers don't have), that doesn't guarantee anything. If you expect World Series runs each and every year, you're going to be a very angry person every Sept/Oct.
Hate on Wash all you want, but this is "the way baseball go." And because of that, there is no reason the Rangers don't come out this weekend after a day or two off guns blazing. None of you have any inclinations that can refute or speak to the randomness that is baseball.

Wow it's like everyone found all the blowhards on the BBTIA forums and said hey let's all post in this thread. wingsofjoy, keystone heavy, the whole gang is here.

I don't believe I've seen anybody write here on this board that the Rangers were guaranteed to make the postseason more-less the World Series. In the beginning of the season many analyst stated that the Rangers were one of the more talented teams that have hit the field in recent history and that was reinforced by the Rangers 50-29 start.
But since then the Rangers have barely played over .500 ball at 43-39 while the As have gone 56-26 in that same time period with a much more difficult schedule. What many people have seen, from this board to sports radio to columnist, is that there are tactical decisions being made about the lineup that are of concern. Specifically, the use of Young and having Kinsler lead off.
Young's numbers probably would have been better had he gotten more rest and Kinsler would have been more productive with his style of hitting lower down in the lineup. This is what analyst are saying. The point of frustration is that the Rangers are on the brink when it didn't have to be that way. Washington's refusal to get his bench player more involved and keeping his starting lineup the same day in and day out, which translates into the Rangers starters have played more games this year than any other team in mlb, and now they look tired and flat.
Is it fair to critique Wash? I don't know, is it better to go quietly into the night and say 'oh well'. Yeah, well, when fans care they're going to emote their opinions and when those opinions are backed up by both local and national analyst it does lead to a bit of frustration.
There is never a guarantee that a team will make the playoffs but make no mistake about it this collect group of players, that have been on a great three year run, will be going in different directions after this seasons ends. What many of us believe is this team is talented enough to win it all but it will hard to watch these guy ride out into the sunset without any hardware without wondering if we saw their best lineup.

I've been dissatisfied with a number of things this year, but I'm not going to call for Wash's head, because, well, I'm an armchair GM. Wash has been involved with baseball for over 40 years (per the Ace Cash Express commercials). Even if I disagree with some of his calls, he has a lot more experience. Does that make him always right? No. But I don't think I could do a better job.
I think our front office has earned the benefit of the doubt over the last few years. If they think Wash made too many dumb calls or needs to be fired or whatever, they'll handle it. I still reserve the right to critique people, but I'm not calling for anyone's head. If Wash is back next year, I'll continue to support the team, and I'll continue to yell at the TV when they do things I think are dumb.
Andy
Relax....2 more games. We'll be put out of our misery .
See you next year.

baffling bullpen decisions, letting michael young play nearly every game (in the middle of the order) while he rests a hot josh hamilton against RHP, benching the young players for weeks at a time. awesome job
