Forum > Detroit has all the advantages
No. MLB chose to do this because they couldn't wait one more year to put in the second wild card. MLB set up a situation where the #3 seed is in possibly the most advantageous position for the playoffs. There's something horribly messed up about that. There's a reason why #1 gets to start at home and so does #2, because those are the two best teams. So now we are basically penalizing #1 and #2 because MLB decided to include #5 into the process this year.

Pretty sure the 2-3 format only applies to the Wild Card series, and Detroit starts on the road.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

No...the Rangers if #2 will start at Detroit on Saturday

2-3 format is the ALDS and the #3 and #4 start at home for 2 games and then go on the road for 3 games. The wild card is a single game, winner takes all.

MLB probably should have put this off until next year, when it will return to the normal 2-2-1 format. The 2-3 format this year was made because of TV obligations that had already been agreed upon before MLB had finalized the new wildcard format. They had to eliminate the extra travel day to get all the games to fit.

Somebody at MLB is dumb for letting this happen. But we all knew that already.

Everyone think about this. Detroit has the worst record out of all the teams who have made the playoffs in the AL. However, they know there place. They can technically rest all their starters for the next three days essentially because they are not fighting to avoid the wild card like the other four teams. They leave Kansas City and take the short flight to Detroit and begin the ALDS well rested and at home. Need I mention they have the best home record. How unfair baseball can be sometimes. But we must not forgot that MLB was forced to do this 2-3 format because of the second wild card.
