Forum > Dutch extension...
I would too. I still say it can be a bargain at the end. But he has to get consistent. Hopefully he makes dat contract worth it this October.

Its a good deal because he doesn't have to do much for it to be worth while, and he's young enough and with good enough stuff that if you wanted to it could be a part of a piece for a better talent if you wanted to go that way.

I'm confused. Seems like when the contract was signed it was a "$50M" deal...but according to BaseRef it's a 5-year deal for $28.5M with two option years for the club. If that's accurate....then yeah, I'd do that again in a heartbeat.
Holland only has to be a 1 WAR pitcher for the next five years to make that deal worthwhile...and the two option years are cherries on the sundae.

I'm not sure that analysis is entirely correct. The team bought out several of Holland's club-friendly years by signing him to a long-term contract. Not sure looking solely at the contract amount takes into account the alternative (i.e. letting him play out his team-friendly years and going to arbitration).

90% of pitching is mental, and the other 50% is physical. I think Holland will figure it out.
T.O.
He's a cheap #5 lefty on a fair contract, and if his head ever gets screwed on correctly, then it's a truly great deal for the team.

Hehe, well my own analysis is that a ~2 WAR pitcher with not one, but two club options is a no-brainer awesome deal for the club. Rangers are protected against a major unforeseen regression and major injury this way. He is more likely to be better than 2 WAR on occasion than to dip below I would think. Yeah, its a great contract. Even Dutchy gets more money now and more guarantee he has a good major league contract and both sides get to avoid the hassle of arbitrators.

Based on what you've seen this season, in hindsight, would you still do that Dutch contract extension?
I say yes...
