Forum > Fangraphs Today: Very Flattering Scouting Review on Sardinas

Could yet another Ranger shortstop start climbing the National top 100 prospect list?

Our farm & scouting system has an unparalleled habit of cranking out top prospect middle infielders.

Andrus (yes I know we acquired him), Kinsler, Profar, Odor, Sardinas... Our cup runneth over.

Sweet... now, if Elvis is still around and Kinsler isn't moved to the OF and Profar needs a spot... wow. We're seeing an avalanche of MIFs... This guy thinks 2014 for Sardinas... That'll give us some time to sort it all out.

Best bet is you'll be ProfarMVP for quite a long time.

Elvis will get moved or sign off somewhere else... eventually.

Sardinas is nice, but he won't be playing shortstop here because of Jurickson.

Rougnad Odor is a 2nd baseman, and we'll probably see him up in the Majors at some point. He has a legit stick, but he's still crazy young. He may be the real weapon that moves Ian to an OF/DH/Super-UTI role in 4-5 years.

Leury Garcia is basically a less-disaplined version of Luis Sardinas at the plate, but possesses more speed, meaning a future move to CF could be in the works. True 70+ grade speed.

Of course, the most likely scenario is that at least 2 of these guys (not including Elvis) eventually get traded at some point. Unless the Rangers are trying to field the speediest, least slugging team in Major League history!

Eric, a few thoughts.
1. Yes, I feel safe with ProfarMVP. We agree that Elvis will get moved this offseason. The rest of the bunch are very interesting prospects. But they aren't the #1 prospect in all of baseball.

2. Glad to see you coming around to my perspective on KInsler's future as a utility player. But it will happen in 1 to 3 seasons not 4-5.

3. As per the abundance...yes, good trade assets.

Profar, so you're saying after moving Elvis Andrus and inserting Jurickson Profar at SS, that Jon Daniels will sign another 2nd baseman after having given $75M to Ian Kinsler this year? I don't follow that logic.

Jon Daniels repeatedly encouraged the demotion of Michael Young, despite the fact he had the highest salary on the team.

Two years from now we could very well see Sardinas as the starting 2Bman, and Kinsler in the utility role. Profar and Sardinas will be cheap, offsetting the debacle of the Kinsler contract.
