What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
"Richard Durrett tweeted: #Rangers say Josh Hamilton has ocular keratitis, which is blurred vision from too much caffeine and sports drinks.”
Aaaand there you have it.
Every recovering addict has their vice.
Also, why haven't I gone blind yet? I drink an ungodly amount of caffeine.
So, apparently Josh is back in the lineup today and has been diagnosed with ocular keratitis by the doctors. Doctors blame too much caffeine and sports drinks. Short of hitting the sauce again, I'm not sure we have any other explanation coming.
It might amaze you to learn that keratitis seems to have a small link to herpes simplex. Additionally, it's more than just a surface issue and goes pretty far down in the cornea. Often, it will leave a scar that will blur vision. It's that last fact that has me leery of Josh being back in action so quick. There is some help in the form of a steroid eyedrop, but I'm not sure how well it works.
I was actually about to make another topic, but this one popped up before I was finished, so I just copy and pasted it here.
An Atllanta Braves player struggled with this and it really helped him out big-time when he got is sorted out.Link: http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/06/18/mccann-vision-has-improved-since-he-cut-out-caffeine/
Remember last year when Josh had all those problems with his vision and day games? I wonder if this wasn't involved in his problems then.
Malisyn, I'd be a little cautious playing doctor.
Keratitis = Inflammation of the cornea. Ocular = related to vision.
That's it and that's all.
There can be different causes for Ocular Keratits. In this case it was just too much caffeine and such...not herpes.
Nice judgement, but I wasn't playing doctor. I was simply relaying what I had found as well as what I found interesting. I'm just not sure I buy it. Yes, I did read that diet can contribute, but I didn't see anything that specifically mentioned caffeine or sports drinks.
The reason I find it suspect is that one day he's saying he's got 20/15 vision, and the next he has an eye disorder that can cause blurriness. Yeah, sorry, but if it's affecting you that badly, you're not gonna have 20/15 vision.
But no, I wasn't trying to hint that Josh has herpes, because everything says that it can come from several things, but it has the strongest link based on what I read and has some pages going so far as to refer to it as eye herpes. It was an honest mistake and I should have relayed a bit more info.
I think Steve Busby has ocular keratitis. Dude can not judge a fly ball worth a shit. He acted as if there was actually hope that Murphy might catch Donaldson's bomb. Then he relates that Cruz "lined" one to left when, in fact, it was a routine medium deep pop up.
Not that anyone cares anymore, but here's a comment on Deadspin from someone who appears to be an eye doc, who says caffeine has not been linked to ocular keratitis, beyond anecdotally. He also says the herpes version makes up only a small percent of the cases he sees. AND he also says, more or less, that sometimes doctors just slap on a concrete diagnosis because they're pressured to do so, so not to read too much into this keratitis diagnosis.
