What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
My vote is for the one where they're playing a little league game and someone hits a line drive to the outfield and they cut it off 5 times before they throw it to "cut off man soandso" and then they're like "now that's.....teamwork"
I don't know how to compare a relay like that to a team in real life, but however you do it I hope I am never part of a team that needs 5 relays to get to where we need to go.
I don't listen to enough games on the radio to remember many of the ones mentioned, but some are the same as other stations, such as 96.3 KSCS that I listen to while at work. None of the above is any match for the shrill voice of Christine Cook, Wife, Mom, and PresidentMattress Whore of Sleep Experts. They play commercials at least 20 times a day, and I turn the radio off every time. I cannot take that voice raping my ears. If they were smart they would hire someone who does voiceovers for a living, like ALL of their competitors. Those can also be annoying, but at least they are professional. What??? The President's Day sale has been extended until St. Patrick's Day? No f'n way!!!
I miss the days of the REAL MEN OF GENIUS Bud Light commercials. Best ever radio commercials IMHO. I found a site one time that had clips of every single one of them and laughed for hours.
The one that dries me crazy is the Ozarka "Born Natural" one because of the ridiculous no-sense entence: "Homer away Ozarka brand water in the 20 ounce sport cap bottle is always a hit!" Am I missing something? Because this one drives me up the wall.
And who says "homer away"?!?
Uh....pretty sure that Ozarka commercial says, "Home, or away."
The Derek Holland texting while driving ad is annoying as hell.
I haven't heard this one on the Rangers' radio broadcasts but I have heard it on ESPN radio: The Miller 64 "Irish" drinking song commercials.
Like the tater mashin' Irish gave a flying F about calories. I hate these commercials with every fiber of my being
"Viva Las Choctaw" fucked me up after one listening. It was the most contrived drivel I've ever had the displeasure of hearing. I still want to cast myself into an icy cold Coca Cola river when I think about it. I'm glad we're all getting this stuff off our chest, as if we were enjoying ourselves. I think there must be an ad agency that the Rangers work with exclusively, that insists on a strong element of absurdity in each commercial. Now thats teamwork.
I'm not sure how this whole conversation has gone by without mention of what I believe are the Mission Foods spots, "Wisdom from Left Field". The one where the announcing pair has one guy reading a grocery list slowly ("eggs, milk..."), the other guy ending with "You have broken me. I...am a broken man." Maybe those don't run during the games, but I feel like I at least hear them during the post-game show. But maybe that commercial has just seared my brain so much that I think I hear it more than it actually plays.
And further, just to show you how ineffective the spot is, I can't even remember who the hell it's for even though I've heard it (or feel like I've heard it) 100 times.
I am just happy to know I am not the only one who has kept the faith listening to baseball on the radio the way God intended.
And yes the radio commercials are terrible, I caught myself reciting the Cholula commercial at the dinner table a few weeks ago. That's when you know advertising works.
Goddammit, this thread has devolved to a protozoic level. This was about stupid commercials. Not how holier than thou you are for still listening to the games on a radio.
I'm also not fond of the Blue Bell Ice cream one that has a slow guitar going on that ends with "...fun childhood memories. How do they pack so much into a carton that size?" That might not be the exact words, but you'll probably know it.
I am disheartened to hear that "PLAY THAT BOTTLE" is back again for 2013.
I usually call your wife during the commercials.
The Arlington camera commercial on tv has to be the WORST. Hands down.
None of them are as bad as this post.
This post returns to life 7 months later, and it wasn't until after reading the entire first page I realized it was from last season. Every commercial is the exact same as last year. The coke commercial absolutely kill me, still. I wish we could have buried this post or had the second version with all new awful commercials to hate, but alas...
"One taste and you can't helpBut wonder how Blue BellPuts so many good thingsIn a carton that size..."
Oh yeah. Awful. My wife laughs at me as I recite the ENTIRE commercial. It gets the radio turned off too.
One more vote for both Coke ads, those are awful for reasons specified above.
I listen on my AtBat app, so I don't get many other ads, I don't recognize any of the others originally listed except the hot sauce one.
It seems like both Coke ads play at every break.
I am so happy to see this thread resurrected. So do we think that Rangers fans are just that limited as an audience that the same 5-10 commercials can run for years in a row or does even one of the finest franchises in sports have that much trouble rustling up advertisers.
On the other hand, I've been making Coke floats with Blue Bell ice cream lately and topping them off with Sweet Baby Ray's and a dash of Cholula (the flavorful hot sauce with the iconic wooden cap). So maybe it's working...
How has the AC commercial with Nolan Ryan not been posted? I know it's on TV, but seriously, I can't tell whats worse: The fact that the guy asks Nolan what his favorite AC company is (because that's obviously what you do when you're sitting next to him at a baseball game), or the fact that Nolan responds with "You know, I get asked that alot."
Play that bottle comes out MILES ahead as the worst. I listen to 90% games with Eric. Also, has anyone else noticed that this year sometimes the commercials play slower than usual? I listen often on my At Bat app and the Chaloula and Coke guys sound deeper than normal...
Honorary Mention: Ahhhhhbuelos!! *vomit* though I haven't heard it this year I don't think....
TV, I know...but the worst I've one I've seen this year is that goofy Taco Cabana one with the ostensibly-attractive-but-really-just-annoying girl who's way too enthusiastic about mediocre Tex-Mex. Of course, the second I see a Bankston commercial, I'm pretty sure it will take the crown. There are few things worse than commercials that ruin songs, especially if they're not even playing the actual song they're ruining.
for awhile, i got so tired of hearing the "i was watching baseball but had called in sick but wasn't sick" commercial that to keep myself entertained i would yell the "maybe i should get him a get well card" to myself in the car. i agree with what is said above, it's pretty impossible to yell "hmmmmm." the commercial would have been way cooler if he actually yelled that last phrase instead of continuing his annoying wimpy voice routine.
