Forum > Why bring up Profar to sit on the bench?
He won't be brought up, and if he was, he most certainly would play 2 times a week. But for that very same reason, I am against calling him up.
juricksoon
My thinking is he's going to be playing with the Major League team next year - so I'm not entirely against bringing him up in September. Let him get a feel for being with the big league team during a pennant race. He really doesn't even have to play, just get him acclimated to a high pressure environment and chew the ears off of some players like...
f*cking Face...nevermind, I take it all back (just kidding).
Txball
He's got a lot of playing time in AA this year already. Missing the last few weeks to experience the playoff run in September and October even with limited playing time will be just as valuable for him.
God
Why?
I mean can someone honestly just go up to Wash and ask why? Look I get what Face has done, and he is still trying, but it's not fair to this team, this fan base, the players, the front office, and even Face to do what Wash is doing. It's his job to put the best team on the field, and right now he is not doing that. I don't know why but that last comment by Txball made me realize how stupid the entirety of this situation is. Look, I love MY and always will but there is a time when you realize this isn't working. I honestly don't mind Young playing everyday against lefties or even 4 times a week, but it seems like Wash is going out of his way to piss off a bunch of people. But for what reason?
I understand loyalty to Face, but is giving him a couple days off a week, to let others play really that harsh. Why is there no loyalty to Olt, Gentry, Napoli, or even Josh? Why does he feel the need to bench/call out others but not MY. Is he oblivious to this? I thought Newberg said it perfectly in his last article. Doesn't Wash remember being in Gentry's or Olt's shoes? Doesn't he remember wanting to be given a chance? I hate to wonder if maybe his career is a reason he doesn't let kids play. I hate to wonder if maybe he's jealous. I know it's absurd but who knows because right now all I see is a guy who I had upmost respect for pissing of an entire fan base. I respect what Wash has overcome, and I understand that Face showed support, but is he forgetting the city that has cheered him on? Or the front office that let him keep his job?
I love this team, and I love baseball. Certain things in life come before both of these things and I remind myself how fortunate I am to have what I have, and maybe Wash needs to realize this. Maybe he needs to be thankful for this city, that has helped him on his feet, and pay them back. Joey has said it twice now, and now I will say it, I don't want to see Michael Young play baseball for the Rangers anymore, and frankly it's not his fault. As I look back at what I wrote I see a jumbled mess of frustration that is trying to portay this situation but it simpy cant. In no way can this mess be described. I really don't know why I wrote this, and I don't want to write anymore so I will end this by saying....
I respect you Wash, I really do. Thanks for what you have done for us, I won't forget these past few years. But I ask you to do one thing, one mere thing. Sit back in your chair in your office, with no advisors, no stats, no nothing and think to yourself am I doing everything possible to win? Am I putting the best team on the field? And as you think about that put aside emotions, put aside everyone telling you how to mange, myself included, and just look inside that head off yours and see if what you are doing is right. If you believe you are right, so be it. But if you find a fault, than open your eyes and look at the fans, look at the stats, look at everything, and admit your mistake and than fix it. That's all I ask of you. That's all I ever wanted, unbiased judgement.

A few ABs off the bench in Sep/Oct are likely to be worth more to his development than sitting at home once the AA season ends. We had German pinch hit in the WS! You wouldn't rather have Profar in that spot?

Agreed on the German thing. Reading the tea leaves tells me if they call him up, it appears as if it will happen after this road trip. He'll be on the roster before Sept 1 and his service clock will not kick in due to the the minimum number of games that he will be a part of. Seems like no harm to me, especially since it seems more likely than not, he's in the majors next season.
You want him or Betancourt???? (released in KC) I'll take me some Profar.
Joseph
I may be wrong, but.... Even if Profar is called up in Sept, he won't be eligible for playoffs, correct? I think you have to be on the 25 man by Aug. 31st to be able to be on the playoff roster.

Kirkman or Scheppers down.
Scooby Dude
What would be the 40 move?
juricksoon
Alberto Gonzalez already came off
Scooby Dude
It's my understanding you have to be on the 40-man to be eligible for the playoffs. And, you have to be there prior to September 1st.
If you're traded for, you have to be on the ground within the city in which your team is playing before midnight, local time (for that city) August 31st going into September 1st.
I *think* this is correct. I know the traded for is correct - just not absolutely certain about the 25-, 40-man rosters.

He's going to come up and come in the next week. We aren't going to rely on Young as the only back up infielder and especially with him DHing and losing the DH spot if that was to happen. A pitcher will go down and Profar will be here. It gets him exposure to the the big leagues regardless if he plays or not. We know Wash is not going to trot him out there, but at least he's a defensive sub as well as base running threat. He can't do worse than Synder or Gonzalez or any others we have to bring up. He's advanced far enough he will hold his head above water.
Kenny
According to Baseball Prospectus,
Under Major League Rule 40 (a), the pool of players eligible for the postseason consists of the 25 players on the active roster and any players on the disabled, bereavement, suspended or military lists before midnight ET on August 31.

@delta:
That's why he'll be up before Aug 31.
Also, there are some exceptions for injuries, but replacements must be on the 40-man roster by Aug 31.

I understand loyalty to Face, but is giving him a couple days off a week, to let others play really that harsh. Why is there no loyalty to Olt, Gentry, Napoli, or even Josh? Why does he feel the need to bench/call out others but not MY.
Because MY was the first to defend Wash after Cocaine-gate broke. Wash very likely would have been gone had MY took the opposite stance, as he very well could have. Wash owes MY his job (at least subliminally in his mind), therefore MY plays every day.
LC
I agree LC, MY's loyalty to Wash when the cocaine story broke probably means more to Wash than any of us can imagine, as well it should. MY had his back when things were at their lowest, and now Wash has MY's back when he's having a bad year.
@ juricksoon, I'll argue that Wash has shown loyalty to Napoli and Hamilton. Hamiton was basically the worst player on the team for June and July, but Wash stuck with him and kept him in the lineup. Same for Napoli and his struggles this year. The only time he has been out of the lineup is for the occasional off day (which most catchers receive), and with his recent injury that led to the DL stint. As for Olt, I don't understand why you think he is owed any loyalty. He's been in the majors for only 2 weeks, so any playing time he gets must be earned, not just given out of loyalty.
Alan
For me, the sooner the better. Hope it will be on Monday 20th. He will help with his glove and bat. Guy has always been a quick learner, so he will see and learn from the big boys. Bring him up; he is our nr.1, and better than the alternative choices we have....
DickT
i agree with scooby. german instead of torrealba off the bench in game 1 last year was maddening. not that torrealba would have been much better.......................confidence here is high that profar would be better than any bench option we had last year. i remember hearing alot of noise in the offseason that the bench should be bolstered for the playoff run this time. that definitely wasn't done in with snyder and gonzalez, so i think profar would be a nice step in this direction for the playoffs.
andrew
Monday baby........we are gonna see Profar!
Kenny
Put him at 2B-bench the attitude
A Serious Fan
Bump. Did Profar get called up for the homestand? No twitter at work.
Matt
I've been trying to find out as well and haven't seen anything even on whether or not Leonys is still here since Dempster is back with the team...
Scottgk
nm, just saw Leonys optioned back to AAA... no word on Profar yet tho
Scottgk

This is another situation similar to Olt's. He isn't gonna play much, if at all. Wash isn't going to bench Kinsler or Andrus. And Profar is too young to DH. I doubt he will help us win a game on the bench or even pinch hitting in a World Series as a teenager. Don't bring him up Nolan.
