What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I was checking the schedule and NY will not send a leftie to the mound and Toronto has 1 lefty. I would think it would be better for younger players to play at least twice a week to continue devolping. Seems like its counter productive over the long haul to keep Olt up to get 4 to 5 at bats a week.
ron washington doesn't care about the good of the team or the development of players. olt hits RHP very well and is being treated as a bench warmer,
Maybe the Yanks put Sabathia on the DL so that Mike Olt wouldn't be in the lineup. If he never has an opportunity he can't prove that he would make the team better than MY, and we won't see him with any consistency until next year.
JK, but that is a nice bi product for them.
Sucks for Olt, but with that short right field porch I'm ok knowing we are going to be sending out a bunch of lefty bats. Wish Olt would give face a couple games off.
I am juiced for this 4 game set. Hamilton going back to NYC where he became a star. Too bad Darvish and Sabathia miss the series. Both teams have injuries but have showed the depth that is so important in a long season.
seems like olt could have gotten a start against porcello after the walkoff the night before. throw the man a freakin bone. moreland is swinging a hot bat, but that problem for olt could be solved if he were plugged in instead of young. i was there sunday, his three groundouts were most uninspiring. i agree, olt's not getting any better sitting on the bench and could be a useful tool down the stretch a la 2010 moreland.
Olt should be in AA with the amount of PT he's getting. Gentry should be starting 3 days a week, regardless if we're facing a righty or a lefty. And Ron Washington should be lynched for his current handling of both players.
Washington should be lynched? Disgusting choice of words, ER, not to mention a disgusting sentiment. Some of us may want the man replaced, but I should hope no one wishes death upon him.
I'm pretty sure it was a figure of speech and not literal. Lighten up francis.
Still a dumb choice of words. Idiotic hyperbole where violence is threatened against a player or manager is not thoughtful or insightful.
I came to BBTiA because the Joey's posts were interesting and the commenters were as well and both were largely devoid of the mindless rants so prevalent on most sports boards. Crap like "lynching" anyone fits right in on the ESPN boards but I thought (hoped) the general discussion here was above that.
* Washington said that since the club is slated to face so many right-handed pitchers coming up, he'll try to get Mike Olt into the lineup at some point to get him some action. If he does that, Adrian Beltre could DH or Washington might let Olt DH and give another player a day off.

These forums are getting more ridiculous with every game. The Rangers currently have the largest division lead in baseball, as well as the best record in the AL. They are 8 games up on the perennially-hyped Angels. They have scored more runs than any other team in the majors.
That's a heck of a lot to be happy about. Instead, every thread on here eventually devolves into "fire Wash because my favorite player isn't getting enough playing time!" As long as the team is winning, who cares if it's Olt, Gentry or MY getting the start.
I agree with MrMan. If I wanted to read a bunch of ignorant trolling and "lynching" comments, I'd go to the ESPN boards (aka, the bowels of sports hell).
No one is stopping you from reading ESPN, nor are we stopping you from posting here.
I really think its a fallacious argument to say that the team is doing fine, because they have the best record in the American League. The Rangers should not be judged by how poorly their competition performs. They should be judged by how well they execute in all facets of the game. They are still an inconsistent team that needs work. Teams that rest on their laurels and are proud of what they accomplish up til August 13th are not teams I would want to root on everyday.
The Rangers can be better than they have shown us thus far, and it's not irrational for us to want them to play to their potential. Gentry and Olt have more to offer than Young. Holding back young talent to placate again veterans is unwise.
I remember a time as a fan of the Rangers where I had to watch Pete Incaviglia troll the outfield in vain . I get the same feelings watching an aging MY flail away at fastballs. He has no power left in his swing and it is a detriment to the team. Certain players may and most likely will cause this team not reach its ultimate goal (the playoffs are a crapshoot and the World Series will be on the road). As a fan, I feel like this forum provides a place to vent such frustration to like minded individuals who can see the obvious. I certainly think someone in the front office can see that Young is a detriment and it is matter of time when, and not if, he is excluded from regular playing time. Note: I use Pete as an example because he embodied everything that was wrong with the 'old' management of the Rangers.
@dRitch: if the Rangers won every game, I wouldn't complain. But they don't. Nobody does. There's always room for improvement. Hence, they should always be looking for ways to improve. And if we see that Young isn't hitting and that the team would be better served by having Gentry play OF and Murphy or Cruz DHing, then we have a reason to complain, if for no other reason than this will likely continue into the postseason, where every inning of every game matters. Every game Young plays is a game when most of us feel the Rangers are not running out the optimal lineup. So, yeah, I'm gonna complain.
I wasn't saying we shouldn't complain about the team, I was just trying to make the point that calling for RW's head is an extreme overreaction. I'm all for complaining when the team underperforms, or when a boneheaded decision is made. It's the knee-jerk reaction of "let's fire Wash" everytime something goes wrong that rankles me.
I'm not happy with the PT that MY is getting either, but demanding RW be fired is not the answer.
In the end, we all want the same thing - a WS banner in RBiA.
A lot of us are not calling for Washington to be fired but to end the Country Club program he runs. Local media isn't talking about it but there is very much a power struggle and disagreement between Washington and JD. JD knows that the Country Club mentality has caused the Rangers to pull up short twice. If there is a third chance JD doesn't want to be because the best lineup wasn't played in the name favoritism.

Exactly. And this is exactly why Texas' regular season record in August isn't the be-all-end-all when it comes to performance analysis.
Texas is probably talented enough to win the West without efficiently utilizing its roster. That might not be true in the playoffs. I believe that most people here complain about poor management decisions based on the implications such decisions could have in the playoffs.
In the playoffs, most games are close and small decisions can have huge ramifications. Starting MY (the worst DH in baseball) every night while Olt gets 5 at-bats/week prevents Olt from proving whether he could be a legit option in the playoffs. As such, Wash will not trust Olt in the playoffs.
How pissed are people going to be if Texas loses their first-round series by a combined 5 runs while MY posts a .230/.260/.380 line as the DH?
I seem to recall that Josh and Young in particular contributed less than usual in the postseason, especially the WS. Unfortunately, we didn't have a Mike Olt that came up in August and might, by the postseason, be able to contribute at a major-league level. We had Esteban German.
Of course, we also had a lot of luck last year. I doubt we'll have that much luck this year. Obviously it would be nice if we could roll out our optimal lineup every day, and that would likely include Gentry, and/or possibly Olt.
Billy Beane traded Pena so Hatteberg could get more playing time. I don't think J.D. can trade Young. Hmm.

Can anyone get an interview with anyone tat supports this drivel? People keep posting crap like this as though it were fact.
A fact is that Young is having an abysmal year.
A fact is that Gentry is having a very good year.
The crap in that linked article isn't fact. It is opinion stated as fact. There isnt ant reporting I've read that supports crap like that article. This board is disgusting from time to time.
"Lynching" not a good word. I've got nothing personal versus MY, who's been a great player for many years for the Rangers, or Ron Washington.
All I want is for the team to win the WS, and Wash putting Young out there everyday reduces the chances we win the WS, plain and simple.
I'm done blaming Wash. Wash is just being Wash, I get that. It's now on JD and Nolan to either fix this problem or let it continue.
Drivel? Really? This forum is great. It allows people to talk about things they are seeing and link to others that have more information. You might not like all the ideas put out there and even disagree but some people like to read what other people have to say on a subject matter.
Drivel or Fact. Let's take a closer look.
1) JD sent Gonzalez to Round Rock- Fact2) Michael Young is now the only back up for SS and 2B- Fact3) When Michael Young plays DH the only back up for Andrus and Kinsler would be a AAA catcher, Olt or Gentry or move Young out of DH and let the pitcher hit. Fact4) JD has publicly said in an INTERVIEW "on the Ben and Skin show" that Olt was brought up to play not sit on the bench and that included against RHP. Further, JD said M. Young's at bats look "very uncomfortable." Fact5) M. Young's WAR stat is -1.4 Fact6) M. Young is lowest rated DH in the A.L Fact7) M. Young leads the team in hitting into DPs Fact8) Ron Washington has mathematically inferred that even if M.Young doesn't get another hit this season (needs to go below .214 to be benched which can't happen.) he still will not bench him. This from an "interview" on the Norm Hitzges show 1310 the ticket.
I could go on but what is the point. To connect the dots of facts from stats and "interviews" and have it be called "Drivel" well I would reply to you to refute these facts. Show everybody how Washington is not running a Country Club style program. Clearly, he is/has and that is what is driving this constant theme of more accountability for everyone. Hey, I want the Rangers to win and if anybody can come up with better ideas then great! That's what this forum is for. You may not agree with this forum or links to blogs that say the same thing but I bet you would be hard pressed to find a whole lot of forums/bloggers extolling M. Young getting the playing time that he does.
As a lawyer and former journalist, I'm thick-skinned when it comes to people exercising their First Amendment rights. That said, one would have to be tone-deaf and ignorant of history to think it's a good idea to use the word "lynching" in a sentence that refers to someone of African-American descent.
I've chimed in a few times of late to voice my opinion on the issue of how Wash deploys his assets night-to-night. Continuing to play Young? Mistake. Sitting Gentry? Mistake. Bringing Olt to the Show and rarely using him? Mistake. Like a lot of you, I'm concerned that these mistakes could prove very costly down the stretch or in October.
But I am getting a little disappointed in the tone around here. It's starting to remind me of the days when my fellow Longhorn brethren were utterly convinced that every ill in the program was attributable to play selection on offense. Granted, that was a big problem, but the real issues ran deeper than that and the ultimate resolution was more complex.
I do suspect -- but cannot prove -- that there is some tension developing between the FO and Wash on these issues. At least, it would appear to be a reasonable assumption on the surface (for reasons that have been hashed and re-hashed thoroughly in this space). But the club is in first place with the largest divisional lead in baseball. The starting rotation is arguably a greater concern at this point. And, Wash's record is what it is -- they've improved every year under his leadership and won two consecutive pennants.
Is Wash without flaws? Hell, no. None of us are. But aside from the occasional blip we've seen with Scooter and Oswalt, you don't hear anything close to the kind of carping that's taking place in Boston (for example). Again, based on what we see from the outside, this would appear to be a pretty tight-knit group with a healthy clubhouse that responds to its manager. Put another way, we don't have access to hard information that would conclusively prove otherwise (or at least I haven't seen it).
So even if my assumption about differing views between the FO and Wash on asset deployment is correct, it's also reasonable to assume that JD and Nolan are also loath to force Wash's hand. When the club is winning, a front office acts to undermine its manager at its own peril. You have to be careful that the unintended consequences don't end up negating the positive aspects of Wash's leadership. That's why I think the issue is taking so long to play out. Unfortunately for the club, if things continue apace, Wash will put JD in a position where he has no choice but to demand changes. Texas might win the division without putting its best nine players on the field every night, but it won't win a title that way.
Until the issue is forced, I suspect that many of us will continue to complain. I just hope we can do so -- like most of you do -- with a little more class and perspective, and less personal invective.
Then again, this is the internet.
