Forum > Olt vs. Crush
The biggest gripe I always heard about Chris Davis was his SO%, and yet, Olt strikes out at a higher rate than Chris. About 24% of his PAs.
Olt has better defense at a more difficult spot defensively, though. Chris Davis had lots of splits and fancy stretches, but most of the time they were unnecessary and he wasn't quite the defensive wizard most thought he was.
I don't think Olt has a future here, really...but I think he can bring us something very valuable in a trade.

Mike Olt has the ability to walk at an elite level

It's less about Olt and more about MY. MY has been so bad this year (wRC+ of 83) that it's hard to believe Olt would be worse. And Olt could be much better. By the way, Crush's wRC+ this year is 122.

Mike Olt, what makes him so good...... Why do we like him?
(points) he gets on base

Chris Davis doesn't look so bad right now.
I doubt Olt & Profar will both play for us. It is likely one of them gets traded or Rule 5'd or whatever out of here (remember DVD?). Also unlikely both become quality ML players. I'd rather keep Profar and see Olt used to help bring more pitching/help rebuild our OF which is likely to be decimated soon with the loss(es?) of Hamilton and/or Cruz. I'm not loving our potential in-house replacements of Murphy/Leonys/Gentry/et al. Nice pieces but not close to what we have out there now.

@CJ
How can you not like what Leonys is doing??
And, while no one expects Gentry to "replace" Hamilton, you can't deny that he has been excellent the last two years, and through his platoon situation, he's very valuable.

Why is Olt more highly regarded than Crush, at his peak? Or is he?
Crush had, at minimum, as dominating a season in AAA in '08 that Olt is having, but it seems like all the talk on Olt is that he's a cant-miss.
Just curious.
