Forum > Oswalt likely to sign with Texas per ESPN

ESPN is saying Oswalt is "very likely" to sign with the Rangers. Source says that someone would have to significantly outbid Texas to get Oswalt.

Do they know something we don't? I thought Oswalt balked at Texas's offer.

I read that also. Daniels also said nothing is off of the table. So who else could be on the table. Wandy in houston would be available maybe. who else?

I truly believe Greinke will be available in July, but with no draft pick pick compensation, trades will be fewer and further between I'm betting.

ESPN has been saying that for over a week. I still doubt it.

I would hate if they traded for Greinke. I can't understand the fascination with him. He pitches well, at home. He gets lit up in away games and against good-hitting teams.

If we do trade for somebody, I hope he doesn't take 6 months to come around like Koji did.

Never said I was a proponent of trading for him, the question was, who else, just threw him out there. Hamels MIGHT be available as well, but suddenty the Phillies are playing better, but an injury to Halladay and the nagging back issues of Lee might make them enter free fall mode. I agree with the LSB theorem applied today: avoid Oswalt and go all in on Hamels or Greinke (preferring Hamels) and try to win it once and for all. Worry about next year, next year.

There will be plenty of teams out of contention who will be looking to unload at the deadline. Dempster, Hamels, Greinke are all possibilities. The Rangers have the prospects to pull off another Cliff Lee type deal if they stay patient. There's no reason to overpay for Oswalt.

is there any chance seattle would even listen on felix.

I'm struggling between the notion of reg. season pitching vs. post season pitching. We obviously have enough to get us through the season, but do we have enough big game pitchers for the post season?

That scares the crap out of me bc this is the season to go big or go home...

If you can get Hamels, maybe I do it if the package doesn't sell the farm...otherwise I'm fine with Oswalt and pray to the baseball gods that the third time is the charm. I just can't mortgage the future. Unless you can promise me that the Rangers can resign Hamilton and Hamels in the offseason.

If so, we need another H last name to create the TRIPLE H.

"is there any chance seattle would even listen on felix."

Probably not. In the summer of 2014, if they're way out of the playoff race, then they might. Maybe, because he'll be free after that year.

@ gnats

Greinke has an Away FIIP of 2.84 and an xFIP of 2.94.
Last year, he had an Away FIP of 3.39 and an xFIP of 2.95.

Put him on the mound with the Rangers' defense behind him and I'm pretty sure you would see his ERA/WHIP numbers dramatically improve.
